Description The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago invites applications for a Research Professor (open rank) in Renaissance Italian Literature and Visual Culture to begin on October 15, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. The department seeks a scholar in Italian literature and Italian Renaissance art history who will further their own research in collaboration with faculty in the department and elsewhere in the Division of Humanities. The selected candidate will 1) conduct research in their stated field of concentration under the mentorship of a faculty member, 2) participate in regular colloquia and workshops in the department, advise and mentor students in consultation with the department and 3) be in residence at the University of Chicago during the three quarters of the academic year. Depending on qualifications and departmental need, the selected candidate may be able to teach up to two courses per year. The selected candidate will be appointed at the rank of Research Assistant Professor, Research Associate Professor, or Research Professor depending on previous experience and record of scholarly achievement. The initial appointment will be for a minimum term of three years, with longer terms possible depending on the rank of the selected candidate. Reappointment and promotion are possible upon successful review. Qualifications Applicants must hold a PhD in a field related to Italian Renaissance literature or art history, have an active scholarly agenda leading to a record of published work which makes important contributions to the applicantí¢â‚¬â„¢s field, or have the potential to do so. Applicants must also demonstrate the potential for increasingly distinguished scholarly achievement.
