Description:Considering making an application for this job Check all the details in this job description, and then click on Apply.Main Purpose:To perform job functions required and assigned in the fabrication of structural/piping materials per the contract/job specifications and quality assurance requirements/fitting procedures and established ISO/QC program standards. The Welder's job duties are to properly weld structure or pipe to construct a drilling deck. This position is located Offshore in the Gulf of America, formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico.Essential Functions:Set and operate welding machine for applicable welding processesPerform welding processes assigned for structural, pipe, and welding projectsPass required welding test per AWS D1.1 latest edition, ASME section IX, and API 1104Maintain quality of welding that can pass NDT testing proceduresPerform welding assignments safely and efficiently, always practicing safetyOperate appropriate hand tools (chipping hammers, grinders, etc.)Weld separately or in combination, using aluminum, stainless steel, cast iron, carbon steel, and other alloysSelect and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux according to welding chart specifications or any thickness of metalsDetermine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of welding techniquesConnect and turn regulator valves to activate and adjust gas flow and pressure to obtain desired flamesMonitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking distortion, or expansion of the materialExpertly weld small, medium, and large structural and pipes of various metals and alloysExpertly weld small, medium, and large structural itemsWeld structure (beams, grating, stairways) and pipeAssist with building a scaffold to access all areas on structure, pipe, or deckPull up leads to weld on deckTransport welding equipment in the yard to the work areaPerform other duties assigned by supervisorBenefits Offered:Earned Wage AccessHealth, Dental, and Vision Insurance401(k) with Company MatchPaid HolidaysPaid VacationLife InsuranceDisability InsuranceSafety AwardsCompany StoreEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Requirements:Physical Requirements:Standing, sitting, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, feeling, talking, hearing and seeingTurning, twisting, bending, and balancingPushing, pulling and reachingMust be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally 50-75 poundsJob Requirements:Must successfully demonstrate the ability to pass a practical welding test: 6G SMAW and 6GR SMAW and 6GR FCAW2+ years of Offshore experienceMust be able to pass pre-employment physical and drug screenMust be able to pass a background checkAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingValid TWIC cardDesirable Experience, Education, and Training:Highschool diploma or GEDExperience with 6G and 6GR -SMAW and FCAW weldingTools, Equipment, and Technology:Welders must know and use: welding machines, man lifts, chipping & grinding equipment, cutting torches, welding leads, welding whips, and welding gunsAll appropriate safety equipment used to perform their everyday welding duties (welding shields, goggles, hard hats, etc.)Environmental Conditions:80 to 90% of the work activities are performed outdoors. Individuals will be required to work in changes of temperature, hot, cold, humid, wet, and dry conditions, dust, mud, etc. Individuals may also be exposed to fumes (Paint, paint thinners, diesel, /or gas, etc.)Gulf Island will not sponsor applications for work visas.
