LifeSouth Community Blood Centers and The National Blood TestingCooperative (NBTC) are currently seeking a skilled individual for the Donor Testing Laboratory Director positionin theNBTC owned Donor Testing Laboratory in StoneMountain, GA. This position is responsible for the strategicplanning, development, organization, coordination, management, and dailyoversight of all activities associated with a blood testing laboratory. Thisposition will also ensure the laboratory performs in accordance with allregulatory requirements and will possess the oversight and responsibility ofall standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the lab.Responsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to: - Create and uphold quality standards to ensure the laboratory delivers the highestlevel of testing results, regulatory compliance, and customer service - Continually monitor, identify, and develop process improvement opportunitiesand initiatives in a timely manner and in accordance with establisheddeadlines/timelines - Provide technical consultation to assigned staff for resolution of testingissues to ensure the integrity of the testing process - Have oversight of all SOPs and ensure procedures and protocols are enforcedand consistently achieved; Work closelywith LifeSouth Quality Assurance on deviations, audits, and implementations tomaintain a consistent and compliant testing environment - Engage in/with resources to stay current on laboratory trends, processimprovements, equipment, and testing advances; Research and present advances orchanges needed to Vice President of Medical Services, CEO and stakeholders; Implementand monitor changes for success - Develop and/or review SOP packages as well as any validation practices neededto implement new/changed procedures; Ensure appropriate communication andtraining to impacted end-users - Maintain a high level of customer service including meeting expectedturnaround times for test results - Ensure and comply with all safety policies as stated in the LifeSouth safetymanual, SOPs, and work guidelines in local, state, and federal regulations andentities - Participate in appropriate proficiency programs adequate to maintainlicensure and accreditation by FDA, AABB, CLIA, and other appropriate agenciesand associations as needed - Participate in local and/or national activities and organizations to maintainand have insight to industry knowledge, trends, and advances - Escalate communication to appropriate stakeholders regarding complianceissues/concerns, product safety/integrity, and client satisfaction, and provideconsistent communication to LifeSouth Executive Management and NBTC leadership - Assist Quality Assurance with inspections and accreditations - Serve as CLIA General Supervisor and perform delegated Laboratory Directorduties as assigned - Work closely with LifeSouth and NBTC CEOs to manage compliance with testingcontracts and customer service levels with third parties - Travel may be required to fulfill the needs and obligations of the position - Provide and demonstrate consistent and strong leadership skills in support ofthe LifeSouth mission and regulatory compliance providing on-going support,timely and open communication to the department leadership team and staff withclear assignment of expectations and assigned accountability - Ensure staff performs all testing processes, completes processing anddocumentation needs, and implements and/or designs initiatives that are inaccordance with all regulatory entities, SOPs, and qualify standards to ensurea safe and adequate blood supply - Ensure the responsibilities, authorities, and accountability of all directreports are defined and understood; Provide consistent and fair feedback on aregular basis; Address performance or behavior concerns in a timely matter inconjunction with senior management and/or HR, including, but not limited to:coaching and counseling, up to, and including termination, if required - Lead the management team in the preparation and adherence to departmentalbudget while evaluating and monitoring opportunities for savings, improvedefficiencies and/or processes - Provide leadership of all department initiatives including, but not limitedto: development, implementation, execution, and analysis of all programs,goals, strategies and compliance in support of the LifeSouth mission, anddepartment goals and creating a culture rich in satisfaction of internal andexternal customers - Ensure that LifeSouth laboratory has the appropriate staffing levels anddaily scheduling to meet operational needs; Support and provide direction tomanagement team(s) to navigate staff retention plans including development, newemployee recruitment, and interviewing and hiring process - Develop and/or utilize benchmarking or other center/industry metrics tomonitor efficiency and effectiveness of LifeSouth. Communicate and educatestaff of those quality metrics and identify opportunities to improveMinimumQualifications: - Must have Bachelor''s degree in: chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology- MLS(ASCP) certification or equivalent required- Minimum of four years of management/supervisory experience required; Equivalent combination of demonstrated work experience and education may be considered- Scientific and technical knowledge from current sources, such as the AABB Standards and relevant guidances related to FDA, CLIA, and CMS, both state and federal- Knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations, and voluntary accrediting standards related to the operation of clinical laboratories and blood banks- Knowledge of modern principles and practices of administration and organization, personnel techniques, and management principles and practices- Knowledge of laboratory processes, inventory requirements, and quality systems- Ability to maintain records in accordance with procedure and regulations, and maintain the confidentiality of those records as required by state and federal laws and regulations- Ability to make decisions consistent with policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines- Ability to take initiative and assist in developing departmental policies, procedures, and projects- Ability to effectively delegate; excellent teamwork and leadership skills- Understand basic inventory principles concerning blood components, including blood type compatibility and minimizing outdates- Ability to perform root-cause analysis and problem solve- Basic computer skills and experience with computer programs such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)- Valid driver''s license required; Must also meet and maintain LifeSouth driver''s eligibility requirementsThe ideal candidatewill possess:- The ideal candidate will possess a master''s degree orhigher in a related area- SBB(ASCP or ASCPi) or other advanced/specialist certification preferred-Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible laboratory experiencepreferredCompetitive Benefits Package:- Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) plan - Health, dental, vision, supplemental life, cancer, accident and disabilityinsurance - Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer match - Retirement plan - Wellness program with incentives and HSA rewards This is a full time position.
