This is an exciting time to join Kinship as we scale out our products and create the pet care platform of the future.We are looking for a strong Principal Software Engineer to play a critical role in our technology organization and partner closely with our business, product and engineering teams to design, build, manage and scale the capabilities that power our pet care platform. This role is focused on creating the key applications, APIs/integrations, partner tools and processes to enable the success of our provider partners and provide reliable and easy-to-use features to our customers.Responsibilities Develop software that connects businesses and customers Lead innovation by exploring, investigating, recommending, benchmarking and implementing data centric technologies for the platform. Be the technical architect and point person for data platforms Determining database requirements and potential impacts Modeling database changes and optimizing queries for efficiency Identifying areas for system improvements Auditing databases regularly to maintain quality of service and performance Taking ownership of services and applications at scale Define architectural patterns that establish conventions for our SaaS product Utilize advanced data processing and analytics Interact with designers and product manager to determine best ways to implement features THE PRO WE''RE LOOKING FORAs Kinship people, we have three pillars that set out how we aim to be--in our everyday work, and in how we approach each other. And for this role, you''ll need theseTechnical Skills Comfortable laying foundational code Experience with relational databases and PostgreSQL with ability to load, navigate and extract data from various data stores like MS SQL Server, MS Access, DB4/Fox Pro (read DBF files for database imports), MySQL and potentially other database systems. Experience parsing data and/or CSV files for mapping and insertion into a relational database Experience with Linux OS, AWS and PHP and command-line PostgreSQL Experience with advanced modern Javascript frameworks(Next, React, Ember, Vue, Angular, etc) Experience designing and building RESTful APIs (Ruby, Java, GoLang, etc.) Expertise using industry standard methodologies (Github, Gitflow, CI, CD, etc) Experience defining technical direction and architecture for a SaaS product Experience evaluating and recommending tools and technologies Comfortable deploying software to major cloud platforms (AWS, Heroku, GCP, etc) Experience mentoring other software engineers Knowledge on OAuth2 authentication and authorization Experience with common development tools such as Node, Yarn, NPM, etc. Leadership Competencies You Have Courage: a willingness to bring forth a new idea, engaging others across Kinship to support you, and taking risks and action will full accountability You Learn at Pace: a consistent and fast work ethic to meet growth goals, and the ability to evolve and pivot quickly from what you''ve learned You Value Difference: a genuine belief in inclusion and diversity is in your DNA, and it shows up in your work, and how you work.
