Job Description BAE Systems'' Integrated Defense Solutions (IDS) business is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the strategic development of key technologies and systems engineering and integration (SE&I) capabilities to enable competitiveness and performance excellence for our programs. Candidate must be capable of executing an integrated engineering concept of operations (CONOPS) in direct support of our business objectives. Selected individual will coordinate a streamlined, integrated engineering organization to facilitate engineering resources and support to all programs and business captures within IDS. As the Engineering Authority, the candidate will be responsible for all engineering mandates of the Lifecycle Management (LCM) framework, including: engineering policy, product safety policy, independent design reviews (IDR) and technical bid reviews (TBR). This position will serve as the focal point of cross-business and cross-sector engineering coordination and collaborations within BAE Systems, as well as the engineering point of contact for external interfaces. IDS is a Business Area within the Intelligence & Security sector of BAE Systems Inc. The IDS Chief Engineer will report directly to the VP/GM of IDS and will be a member of the IDS senior leadership team.The role can be based at one of our BAE regional offices and will require regular travel to the I&S Headquarter offices in McLean, VA.Specific responsibilities of this position will include but not be limited to:Ensure that the technical solutions of business proposals are innovative, as well as operationally viable, and financially sound.* Support the development of the IDS Integrated Business Plan (IBP).* Execute and enable our Digital Engineering Strategy across IDS* Establish, maintain and execute the MBSE Catalyst program* Provide guidance and recommendations to the developers in support of the ADAMS Digital Engineering Environment* Develop and maintain a technical roadmap for IDS to meet IBP commitments. Ensure technical investments support filling the gaps identified in the roadmap.* Track key industry partners and small businesses that have key strategic capability needed for the IDS strategic plan.* Track and maintain technical capabilities in IDS.* Ensure technical investments for IDS have sound business cases, are relevant, meet business objectives and position the organization for growth. Lead quarterly reviews of IDS investments to ensure plans are on track.* Track and maintain technical best practices in delivering engineering services.* Develop and maintain technical competencies roadmap for IDS. Develop plans fill the gaps identified through training or acquiring talent.* As Engineering Authority, responsible for all engineering mandates of the Lifecycle Management (LCM) framework, including: engineering policy, product safety policy, independent design reviews (IDR) and technical bid reviews (TBR)* Serve as the focal point of cross-business and cross-sector engineering coordination and collaborations within BAE Systems, as well as the engineering point of contact for external interfaces.* Support IDS M&A activities as needed. Required Education, Experience, & Skills * BS or equivalent experience in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or related fields. * A minimum of fifteen years'' experience leading engineering development and sustainment programs.* Thorough understanding of industry best practices in engineering services development and management processes.* Experience in proposal processes and development.* Good oral and written communications skills.* Significant experience working with non-engineering functions and business processes (Business Development, Contracts, Pricing, Finance, Procurement).* Active clearance. Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills * Post-graduate degree in related technical or in management-related discipline.* Knowledge and experience working in the DOD technical services industry.* Experience in the planning, development and execution of new adjacent growth market opportunities, and business plans.
