The RoleBattery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.ResponsibilitiesManage cell mechanical requirements across multiple cell programsDesign, prototype, and develop mechanical test and characterization methods for battery cells and cell componentsConsolidate and summarize findings in technical presentations, to broad internal and external audiencesRequirementsExperience with rapid prototyping, CAD, drafting, GD&TExperience of Design of Experiment (DOE) development and lab testingDegree in Mechanical Engineering or similarAbility to break down complex technical topics to actionable test plans, and drive to produce deliverables efficiently, and present to large audienceDesirable AttributesTechnical background in lithium-ion battery technology, especially: Experience with mechanical testing of batteriesWorking knowledge of safety hazards when testing lithium-ion batteriesUnderstanding of battery cell componentsFamiliarity with finite element methods (FEA) and ability to validate FEA models / extract material parameters
