JOB TITLE: Administrator IT Services 3 - AVD LOCATION: San Antonio, TX DURATION: 2 years RATE RANGE: $38 - $48/hr. TOP 3 SKILLS: 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), including deployment, FSLogix profile management, image optimization, and performance troubleshooting. Strong skills in PowerShell scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code automation, and Azure networking, identity, and security management. Experience with Microsoft Intune for device compliance and application deployment is preferred; AZ-104 and AZ-140 certifications are a plus. Job Description: Responsible for designing, testing, and maintaining software and programs for managing Information Technology assets. Identify and manage processes for tracking, updating, quality assurance, and reporting from IT asset records and databases. Responsible for configuring and supporting Microsoft-based infrastructure, enterprise application installation, configuration, design, and troubleshooting. Consult with support teams, help desks, customers, and other technical staff in the resolution of problems. Coordinate and operate maintenance activities for workstations. Identify recurring issues, and recommend steps to reduce the severity or frequency of problems. Demonstrates technical expertise through maintaining primary technical programming skills for the assigned job, developing new skills as required, developing guidelines and standards, and establishing best practices. Manage and maintain area systems that include inventory, licensing, patching, deployment, and reporting. Create plans for the transition of development and production environments to new technologies. Utilize system software to monitor the performance of system files. Manage system data to maintain performance efficiencies. Study system requirements to determine proper installation methods and procedures. Provide data analysis and reporting on various processes, including update compliance, computer hardware, mobile hardware, software utilization, and other areas as required. Responsible for managing software availability to support groups and customers. Key Responsibilities: Deploy and configure AVD host pools, session hosts, and scaling plans. Manage FSLogix profiles and optimize image deployment. Monitor performance and troubleshoot AVD-related issues. Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell and Infrastructure-as-Code tools. Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with organizational standards. Provide Tier 2/3 support for AVD incidents and document resolutions. Required Skills & Experience: 3+ years of experience with Azure Virtual Desktop administration. Strong knowledge of Azure networking, identity management, and security. Proficiency in PowerShell scripting and automation. Experience with FSLogix, image management, and performance tuning. Familiarity with Azure Monitor and Log Analytics. Preferred Skills: Microsoft Intune experience for device compliance, application deployment, and policy management. Knowledge of hybrid environments integrating AVD with Intune for endpoint management. Preferred Certifications: Microsoft AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) Microsoft AZ-140 (Configuring and Operating AVD) Business Impact: The AVD Administrator role directly supports the Business Unit's short-term goals by ensuring a smooth and stable transition from the legacy Citrix environment to Azure Virtual Desktop. This includes deploying AVD host pools, optimizing images, and resolving performance issues so end users experience minimal disruption during the migration. Long term, this position strengthens the organization's cloud strategy by modernizing the virtual desktop platform, improving security, reducing reliance on aging on-premises technologies, and enabling a scalable, cost-efficient environment that can evolve with operational needs. The primary customers for this role are contractors, employees, and business units who rely on virtual desktops to perform daily work. By ensuring a reliable, secure, and high-performing AVD environment, the role indirectly benefits external customers by supporting the teams who deliver services to the community.
