Our mission is to enhance daily living, expand personal choices, and educate the community to support independence and a full, vibrant life for the people we serve. We are seeking dependable, compassionate Van Drivers to safely transport seniors and individuals with disabilities throughout Lincoln and Lancaster County. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, values safety, and takes pride in providing excellent customer service. Schedule: Variable hours available between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position is unclassified and is not eligible for benefits. What You Will Do Safely operate 12-passenger vans and buses to transport seniors and individuals with disabilities throughout Lincoln and Lancaster County. Assist passengers boarding and exiting the vehicle, including operating wheelchair lifts and properly securing mobility devices. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly. Maintain a clean, organized vehicle with required forms, route information, maps, and first aid supplies. Follow daily route sheets and rider rosters; attend required driver trainings. Work cooperatively with team members and support occasional evening or weekend special programs as needed. Attend and successfully complete mandatory driver training sessions as scheduled. Physical Requirements Must be physically capable of assisting passengers boarding and disembarking the vehicle. Job requires ability to stand, lift and carry up to 35 Ibs, lean, and kneel. Physically able to transport passenger using wheelchair, scooter, or other mobility device. Safely operate the lift and demonstrate proper tie-down securement techniques. Who We're Looking For Must enjoy working with the public, particularly seniors and persons with disabilities. Must be comfortable driving 12 passenger vans & buses. Must be able to perform all functions related to safe vehicle operation. Must be familiar with Lincoln, Lancaster County, possess good map reading skills, and a good sense of direction. Qualifications Minimum age of 19 Possess and maintain a current Nebraska Driver's License with an excellent driving history. Adhere to the City of Lincoln and Federal Transportation Associations Drug & Alcohol Policies and Procedures. This includes a pre-employment drug & alcohol screen and participation in the DOT random testing pool. Must pass local and national Criminal History checks and Department of Motor Vehicle checks. Existing workers who test positive will not be considered qualified for the position for which they are applying and will also be subject to the City/County discipline, up to and including discharge.All pre-employment job applicants covered by this policy who test positive will not be hired. Any applicant has the right to have their original split sample retested (by a DHHS certified laboratory, the original laboratory will follow approved transfer procedures) at their expense, if requested in writing to the City/County Personnel Administrator within 72 hours of the final result provided by the Medical Review Officer. If upon retest the results are found to be negative, the City/County will reimburse the costs involved with the retest. (If the second test is found to be positive, the applicant will not be hired, and the cost of the retest will not be reimbursed.)Current employees transferring, promoting or demoting into a position requiring drug testing who test positive have the right to have their sample retested (by a DHHS certified laboratory, the original laboratory will follow approved transfer procedures) at their expense, if requested in writing to the City/County Personnel Administrator within 72 hours of the final result provided by the MRO. If upon retest the results are found to be negative, the City/County will reimburse the costs involved with the retest. (if the second test is found to be positive, the applicant will not be hired, and the cost of the retest will not be reimbursed.)
