Salary: $15.45 - $19.75 Hourly Location : Gaithersburg, MD Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: SEA.26 Department: MC Parks Division: Horticulture Frstry and Env Ed Opening Date: 01/06/2026 Closing Date: 3/31/2026 11:59 PM Eastern Description The Parks Activation Team at Montgomery Parks is hiring Special Event Assistants to help bring our events and programs to life! This role will assist with special events and programs throughout the year such as Parks Summer Concert Series, Sligo Creek Fest, Parks Ale Trail, Shakespeare Beyond, Parks Playhouse Junior, Acoustics & Ales, and other community events. For more information about the Seasonal Hiring process and application status for Montgomery County, please contact Examples of Important Duties What You'll Do Assist with the set up and breakdown of event spaces and equipment including tables, chairs, tents, signage, etc. Assist with loading and unloading vehicles for events. Monitor events on-site, including all event activities, ensuring safety and success of the event. Engage with event attendees and provide friendly, helpful customer service. Help maintain our special events inventory and warehouse located in Gaithersburg, MD. Provide support to Parks Activation staff. Perform related tasks as required. When You'll Work Opportunities to work will be according to event schedule throughout the year, and will include weekdays, weekends, mornings, evenings, and some holidays. Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualification Requirements Must possess a valid Maryland driver's license. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Stand for at least two hours at a time. Walk at least a half a mile up and down moderate hills without difficulty. Tolerance for working in various weather conditions, including heat, rain, humidity, and cold. Preferred Qualifications Experience with special events equipment. Experience with and knowledge of special events. Previous customer service experience. Bilingual/multilingual. Experience driving large vehicles (pick-up truck and/or box truck). Supplemental Information May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing. Supplemental Information This position is part-time and not eligible for benefits. A background investigation will be completed prior to hire. Must possess a valid Maryland Driver's License. This position is based out of Gaithersburg, MD and works at park locations throughout Montgomery County. Position pays at a rate of $15.45 to $19.75 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. This is for informational purposes only and is subject to change. Limited Benefits for Seasonal Employees Health Insurance Plans You are eligible for specific health insurance benefits if you worked, on average, 30 hours per week during your first 12 months of employment or from October 3rd to October 2nd each subsequent period following your first 12 months of employment. This equates to 1,560 hours over a 12-month period. If and when you are eligible for benefits, you will receive notification directly from the Health & Benefits Office. Eligible Employees Pay 35% of the health insurance plan premium and The Commission Pays 65%.
