Department/Unit: Neurosciences & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) - D5N Work Shift: Night (United States of America) Salary Range: $83,200.00 - $93,184.00 Job Description Summary The Clinical Nurse plays a vital role in fostering a compassionate and caring environment for patients, families, and colleagues through acts of kindness and active listening. The D5N unit is a specialized 21-bed neurosciences unit that accommodates patients with various neurological conditions such as strokes, brain tumors, aneurysms, seizures, and traumatic brain injuries. In addition, we have 7 Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) beds where patients with seizure disorders receive care with their anti-convulsant medications on hold and are connected to continuous EEG monitoring. This state-of-the-art monitoring helps physicians identify the source of seizures and consider candidates for surgical interventions. Our nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, allowing for personalized and attentive care. Key Responsibilities Implement physician orders, administer medications, initiate IVs, perform treatments, procedures, and special tests, and document treatment as required by company policy and regulatory guidelines. Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to accurately assess patients' conditions. Assess and evaluate patient needs and responses to care provided. Utilize sound nursing judgment in making patient care management decisions. Provide primary and emergency care for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses. Administer over-the-counter and prescription medications as ordered by physicians. Collaborate with the nursing team to develop individualized Plans of Care for all patients. Guide and support ancillary personnel while upholding professional nursing standards. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from a professional academic nursing program with a Diploma, Associate Degree, or Baccalaureate Degree. Current NYS Registered Nurse license. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required. 1-3 years of clinical RN experience in Med-Surg or Progressive Care required. Strong communication, prioritization, organizational, and time-management skills. Knowledge of quality concepts and problem-solving techniques, with the ability to apply them in support of patient care quality improvement. Thank you for considering a role at Albany Medical Center!
