Job Description APPLICANTS MUST BE PERMANENT IN THE COMPUTER SPECIALIST (SOFTWARE) CIVIL SERVICE TITLE. The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSSu2019s technology services organization. ITS mission is to support the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of both agencies. ITS creates and enhances the technology infrastructure and computer applications that support HRA and DHS and develops applications, including a variety of client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing systems, employment/work engagement services, revenue producing computer matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems. ITS/Office of Distributed Manage Services (DMS)/Windows Operation Unit, within ITS Infrastructure and Operations, is responsible for the analysis, design, development, implementation, enhancement, maintenance, and security of the DSS/HRA/DHS network infrastructure environment. This includes ensuring optimal network infrastructure availability, functionality, and stability with minimal downtime and/or loss of resources. The Office of Windows Operations is responsible for the security and update of all desktops and some servers within the agency. These tasks include managing Operating systems and Application patching, performing mass deployments of software applications, and assisting desktop group in the repairing of systems (using SCCM). All tasks are handled using the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) infrastructure and application. Information Technology Services (ITS)/Windows Operation Unit is recruiting for one (1) Computer Specialist (SW) III, to function as a DMS Endpoint Protection / System Center Configuration Manager Engineer, who will: - Be responsible for managing and maintaining the Agencyu2019s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) infrastructure, support its end users, provide Tier I-II and III support for DSS/HRA/DHS issues, and provide the analytical and technical experience needed to ensure the SCCM infrastructure functions at optimal levels. - Work with minimal supervision for handling McAfee related issues and upgrade Security products (McAfee AntiVirus & FalconHost CrowdStrike) for HRA/DSS and DHS. Train other members of DMS team and DSS Network Security office regarding the use of McAfee and its' components. - Monitor the status messages and vulnerabilities from McAFee and FalconHost regarding systems that are vulnerable to the infrastructure. Be the agencies u201cgo to personu201d for all security related application and system related issues. Devise a plan to remediate those system(s) and implement either using DMS resources and or another team. - Work with minimal supervision to build, deploy and monitor security patches and report to HRA Network Security office. For additional emergency patches locate the fix patch, build the package, test cases, select the source systems that have the vulnerability, deploy the fix, monitor the deployment and report on the deployment. - Schedule, assign, monitor and report other SCCM deployments through the DSS/HRA/DHS agencies. Hours/Shift: Normal Business Hours COMPUTER SPECIALIST (SOFTWARE) - 13632 Qualifications (1) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time software experience in designing, programming, debugging, maintaining, implementing, and enhancing computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or (2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory software experience as described in u201c1
