General Purpose: Responsible for the management, operations and financial performance of the facility's Fitness and Spa amenities and to actively engage with residents to introduce and promote the concepts of Wellness and lead the Club's efforts to develop personalized, first-class programs. Compensation: Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Essential Duties: Develops strong community-wide member relationships through exceptional customer service, good communication, an engaging environment, and exceeding member expectations, all resulting in recruiting and retention of loyal patrons of Fitness and Spa programs and services.Develops a comprehensive and dynamic schedule of Group Fitness Program classes for members of all ages, abilities and skill levels, recruits qualified licensed instructors to teach those classes, and monitors/substitutes for classes as needed.Oversees fitness center, spa and pool deck facilities for ongoing cleanliness, quality assurance and operating proficiency, with attention to detail.Prepares annual budget and monitors monthly revenue goals and expenses for Fitness and Spa amenities to ensure that the net income goal is met or exceeded.Tracks various class attendance, satisfaction surveys, and other data points and prepares reports for GM, Board of Directors, and Fitness Wellness Spa Committee to demonstrate overall performance and recommend corrective action if needed.Manages department employees and contractors including Front Desk Staff, Fitness Instructors, Personal Trainers, Massage Therapists, Aestheticians, Hair Stylists, Manicurists, Pool Attendants, and other Wellness Professionals, with the following responsibilities:Interviewing and hiringOnboarding and training, including developing training programs as neededEstablishing high standards of performanceSetting goals and expectationsPlanning, assigning, and directing work as neededEvaluating performance, providing feedback/reviews, rewarding and disciplining associatesAddressing complaints and resolving problemsNegotiates and executes agreements with above independent contractors including spa and salon technicians, personal trainers, and fitness instructors, and schedules, services, payment issues, and other operational matters.Negotiates and executes equipment and product vendor contracts.Leads by example to create memorable moments by personalizing the member experience and actively promoting a fun and socially engaging atmosphere.Promotes Fitness and Spa program participation and patronage in conjunction with the Lifestyle Director, Member Specialist and Communications Coordinator, including:Providing incentives and facility tours and orientations to new residents.Preparing website and promotional content to the Communications Coordinator on Fitness and Spa activities and programs.Conducting ongoing outreach to residents to promote Fitness and Spa membership and services, including seasonal residents upon return, residents who may have dropped memberships, special promotions, etc.Hosting periodic open houses to introduce/showcase Fitness and Spa Programs.Generating ideas to improve and expand current programs and offerings and researching opportunities to increase member involvement and increase revenue, including monitoring trends in our competitive set.Resolves customer service issues in a hospitable, timely and effective manner.Works closely with the Fitness Wellness Spa Standing Advisory Committee to seek their member input and feedback, keep them informed of scheduling and program changes so that they can socialize those in the community, and empower them as ambassadors on behalf of the Fitness and Spa programs.Reviews, updates and implements policies and procedures, rules and regulations for Fitness and Spa, including compliance with all community standards for products and services as well as delivering premier member fitness and wellness experience. Establishes good working relationships with other departments (Facilities, F&B, Golf, Court Sports, etc.) to ensure effective coordination of events, cross-promotion, and other activities that may affect multiple amenities. Attends budgeted continuing education events relative to fitness and spa industry.Oversees and manages spa product inventory orders, tracking, and replenishing.Manages point of sale system, reservation system and other technology involving booking classes, billing, and other sales.Participates in Department Head meetings and works to create synergies across all departments to enhance the member experience and achieve and maintain Club vision and service.Conducts regular staff meetings. Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (BA), preferably in exercise science, kinesiology or physical education; or five to ten years ofexperience and/or training in the Fitness industry preferably in a management role or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience as a personal trainer or group exercise instructor is also valuable. Desired Certifications/Licenses: CPR and First Aid CertificationOne or more of the following:ACE (American Council on Exercise) CertificationNASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) CertificationACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) CertificationNSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association) CertificationOther lifestyle, weight management, or fitness facility director certifications Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences: Knowledge of fitness practices and trends - skills to build and maintain a quality fitness programFamiliarity with spa practices - exposure to best practices and willingness to research and learnLeadership and management - ability to lead and inspire constituent loyalty and confidenceOrganizational skills - multi-tasking in an environment with diverse requirementsCommunication and interpersonal skills - excellent communication skills and 'servant leader' mindset to interact effectively with private club members/homeowners, staff, contractors, and vendorsPersonal training and group exercise instruction skills - ability to fill in on occasion if an instructor is absentAbility to read and speak English is required in order to perform the duties of the job.Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications - helpful for reports and communication tasksPhysical Demands: Frequently sits, uses hands, stoops, kneels, crawls and crouches. Regularly stands, walks, reaches with arms and hands, climbs, balances, talks and hears. Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds. Environment/Noise: Occasionally works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather). Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions. Noise level is moderate.
