Job Description The Office of Administrative Tax Appeals (OATA) is an umbrella agency comprised of the Tax Appeals Tribunal and the Tax Commission. OATA seeks attorneys to serve as Tax Commission Hearing Officers in appeals filed by taxpayers seeking not-for-profit exemptions from real property taxes after their applications for exemption were denied by the New York City Department of Finance. Hearing Officers will review taxpayer claims and documentary submissions, conduct hearings, and draft written determinations granting or denying the appeal as directed by, and under delegation from, the Tax Commission President. To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) 04 Candidates must be an attorney admitted to practice in the State of New York for at least five (5) years. Candidates must be experienced in using PC software, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Microsoft Word. Preferred Skills: Candidates with 5 or more years of litigation experience are preferred; should have excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, analytical, research, problem solving, multi-tasking and organizational skills.
