Occupational Therapist

Under general supervision, provides early intervention evaluation and treatment services for young children in assigned Tribal programs.This list is intended only to illustrate the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or logical assignment to the position.Screens and evaluates child’s level of motor development, including fine/gross motor, sensory-motor and functional motor skills (activities of daily living).Determines presence or absence of delay in motor development or development of appropriate skill in activities of daily living.Designs and implements intervention program and evaluates child’s progress.Consults with other members of team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of child and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.Quantifies the level and type of services required and determines developmentally appropriate goals.When appropriate, provides occupational therapy intervention services to child and family as direct services, indirect services, and/or consultative, in the child’s natural environment.Establishes IFSP/IEP goal/objectives for each child needing treatment and meets with family during MDT meeting to formulate those objectives.Participates in team meetings with family to review progress.Advises and demonstrates to other staff the methods of proper positioning and techniques to benefit the development of each child receiving therapy.Monitors the progress of motor skills and consults with staff regarding children not receiving direct therapy.Provides instruction to parents and remains available for frequent information discussions with parents regarding therapy methods.Maintains confidential, accurate and updated records.Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university; current Washington State Professional Occupational Therapy License; current or pending Educational Staff Associates (ESA) certificate; and two (2) years experience working with developmentally delayed infants and children.Special Requirements: A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunizations requirements required by federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations.A valid First Aid/CPR card required at the time of appointment or within three months of hire.Knowledge of: Young children’s motor development stages; Basic occupational therapy methods and techniques; Individual remedial program development techniques; Developmentally delayed infants and children; State and Federal guidelines for eligibility and treatment of motor delays.;Skill in: Early childhood motor development assessment and evaluation; Motor development monitoring and progress assessment; Occupational therapy intervention skills; Identifying and developing individualized activity programs; Working with family and staff in a team approach ; Oral and written communication; Understanding and completing oral and written directions with minimal supervision; Establishing and maintaining effective organizational, public and community relationshipsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
