Assistant Professor (Cyber Security) - Computer Science (Multiple Positions) FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Department of Computer Science (of Hunter College of The City University of New York invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant Professor rank, to begin in August of 2026. Though the Department is primarily seeking applicants with an independent research record in an area of cyber security, research expertise in all areas of computer science will be considered. Similarly, although applications at the Assistant Professor rank are strongly encouraged, applications seeking appointment at a rank above Assistant Professor will be considered. Priority will be given to cyber security applicants with a successful track record within systems (including high performance computing, parallel computation, etc.), computer networking, network security, software security, secure operating systems, quantum computing, and secure software engineering. Located on the 68th Street campus on the upper east side of Manhattan, the faculty of the Computer Science Department at Hunter works closely with students and each other in an open and collegial atmosphere. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong research program and a commitment to obtain external grants, as well as develop collaborations with colleagues at both Hunter and throughout the CUNY system. Hunter has both a teaching and a research mission; thus the candidate will be expected to teach core undergraduate computer science courses as well as electives (undergraduate and graduate) within their area of research and share responsibility for committee and other departmental assignments. Faculty in the Department of Computer Science at Hunter College are generally offered membership in the doctoral faculty of the Computer Science Program at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, which enables them to teach doctoral-level courses and mentor Ph.D. students. QUALIFICATIONS A Ph.D. degree in computer science or related field, either in hand, or expected in or before Summer 2026 is required. Also required are: the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. COMPENSATION Compensation is commensurate with experience within the range of $86,741 - $109,025. CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development. CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
