Job Description The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. Under Local Law 199 of 2019, the Department of Sanitation is required to implement a program known as Commercial Waste Zones (CWZ), which transfers the regulation of private waste haulers to the Department of Sanitation. DSNY is seeking a successful candidate that will report to Senior Management, with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative, judgment and decision making; the successful candidate will perform professional, complex and responsible program management, staff supervision, planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and/or evaluation of community development programs and resources including and field operations work. The candidate will also be supporting our Special Waste program which provides residents the opportunity to recycle batteries, electronics, paint, etc. Work could be at the Special Waste Sites or our SAFE Disposal Events. Duties will include: - Reviewing invoices and managing data for the Special Waste Program - Ensuring programs are in compliance with Local, State and Federal regulations and requirements - Research, evaluate and make recommendations on program implementation - Preparing comprehensive reports and presentations on program and project status - Supporting the team with field work when needed COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058 Qualifications 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or 3.
