Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, promoting safety through observation and redirection, supporting therapeutic interventions, and maintaining a secure and respectful environment for psychiatric patients.Essential FunctionsAssists patients with personal care, hygiene, ambulation, feeding, and elimination needsSupports patients with psychosocial needs under supervision of the RNProvides safe patient positioning, transfer, and mobility supportDocuments intake/output, vital signs, weights, and patient behaviors in EMRMaintains clean and organized patient rooms and unit environmentsAnswers call lights and responds to patient needs promptly and respectfullyParticipates in therapeutic activities, patient observation, and safety checksAssists in admission, transfer, and discharge proceduresApplies and monitors restraints as directed and maintains documentationTransports patients to procedures and departments as neededParticipates in crisis interventions and assists in de-escalation under RN directionCommunicates effectively with the healthcare team, patients, and familiesProvides post-mortem care and assists in body transport as neededAdheres to infection control and safety protocolsMaintains awareness of patient confidentiality and boundariesKnowledge/Skills/Abilities/ExpectationsStrong communication, observation, and interpersonal skillsAbility to remain calm and supportive in emotionally charged situationsBasic knowledge of behavioral health conditions and care strategiesDemonstrates respect for diverse backgrounds and experiencesProficient in electronic medical records and basic computer useAbility to work effectively within a multidisciplinary teamMust be able to stand/walk for long periods and lift/push/pull up to 50 poundsCommitted to safety, professionalism, and quality patient careQualificationsEducationHigh school diploma or GED requiredCompletion of a Nursing Assistant training course preferredLicenses/CertificationsCurrent CNA certification required if practicing as a Certified Nurse AssistantBasic Life Support (BLS) certification requiredDe-escalation training required (within facility-designated time frame)ExperienceMinimum of six (6) months experience in an acute care, long-term care, or behavioral health setting preferred
