This position will be primarily a work from home opportunity with the requirement to come onsite as needed. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.Under the general direction of the Director of IT Architecture & Infrastructure, the Manager of Network Operations is responsible forthe design, implementation and day-to-day operations of the voice & data network servicing the University of Chicago Medical Center. This includes wired,wirelessand cellular services for the Hyde Park Campus, the Darien DataCenter,and all existing and future remote locations.Essential Job FunctionsManaging the Network Engineering teamto supportthe UCM voiceand datanetworks.Providingtechnical guidance forthe NetworkEngineering team supporting the UCM voiceand datanetworks.Understanding the business impact of events and decisions made relating to the voiceand datanetwork.Make decisions to maximize network availability,performance,and optimize investments.Manage operational and capital budgets.Provides highly skilled technicalassistancein network budgeting, planning, engineering, and architecture.Prepares proposals, cost/benefit analyses, and feasibility studies.Performs other duties assigned.Responsible for individual technical training for Network Engineers.Responsible for career guidance and professional development for Network Engineers.Provides guidance and direction for less Experienced Network Engineers.Makes recommendations for resourcesrequiredtomaintainand/or expand service levels.Evaluates new products/technologies todeterminethe impacton existing system configurations.Manage vendor relationships.Manage UCM departmental relationships.Interfaces with vendors toidentifyandpurchasehardware and software.Studiesvendor products todeterminethosewhich best meet UCM needs andassistsin presentation of information to leadership resulting in the purchase and installation of hardware and software.Responsible for ensuringhighly availablemovement of data through the networks thatcomprisethe enterprise voice & data network (wired, wireless & cellular).Designs,developsand implements voice & data networks which serve the business needs of UCM, its departments, and information systems.Develops technical standards,identifiesand evaluates new products, and provides resolution for network problems.Monitors and controls the performance and status of the network resources.Utilizes software and hardware tools andidentifiesand diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance.Provides integrated team support and maintenance of network hardware and software.Required QualificationsBS or BA degree, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent education,trainingor work experienceFive (5) or more years of Lead Network Engineering experiencerequired.Skilled and experienced with any orall ofthe following hardware: Cisco, F5,TippingPoint,PeakFlow, ACS, SolarWinds, Cisco LMS, TACACS, VoIP, Wireless, EIGRP, BGP, ASE, SONETDetailed understanding of networking/distributed computing environment conceptsIndependent problem-solverSorts through issues and conducts comparative analysis of multiple solutions (i.e.skilled in problem analysis; paysvery closeattention to detail)Able to work in a team environment or independentlyExcellent listening and organizational skills with emphasis on detail and follow-throughAble to organize and delegate tasks, coordinateprojectsand be willing toadviseothersSkilled in project management and work plan development and implementationEffective oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skillsPreferred QualificationsProject leader trainingAdvanced degreeExperience inhealthcarePosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Full TimeShift: DaysJob Location: Flexible (Darien)Unit/Department: ITTechnology Services- Hyde ParkCBA Code: Non-UnionWe’ve been at the forefront of medicine since 1899. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
