Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Assistant Cattle Manager will work closely with the Cattle Manager to prioritize and delegate feedyard work requirements.The Assistant Cattle Manager, under the guidance of the Cattle Manager, will direct, supervise and coordinate daily activities at the Feedyard including employee supervision, posting research data, maintaining herd health programs and coordinating daily work and research activities of part-time employees.Responsibilities and DutiesMaintain communication with cattle manager regarding cattle handling and careSupport, coordinate and direct supervision of all cattle handling crewsPerform discretionary decisions in the Cattle Managers absenceDistinguish and identify cattle as to quality, health, or at riskAware of cattle nutritional and health knowledgeSort and order cattle per managers specifications and requirementsReceiving or rejection of cattlePerform proper documentation of all cattle receivedHelp schedule and place all feedyard staff and coordinate their activitiesAssist with maintaining proper health care suppliesEstablish proper cattle care crewsPerform maintenance of all cattle care facilitiesManage cattle sorting and classificationMaintain accurate inventory of cattle in home pens, hospital pens, etc.Manage maintenance of medicine inventoriesFacilitate movements of cattle across the feedyardRun or approve any clearance reports on all pens to be shippedStructure and maintain an efficient feedyard scheduleManage and support a continual observance and enforcement of safety policies and proceduresQualifications and SkillsHigh School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experienceClass A CDL license (or must be able to obtain within 60 days)Detailed oriented to provide accurate and consistent workExcellent customer service skillsWork independently and as a team memberKnowledge of feedyard cattle processing programs including animal health and habitsExperience in managing employee labor, feeding, herd health, & BQAGeneral computer knowledgeSpecial Conditions / Requirements:Operating computerized machineryLivestock accidents, moving machinery, contaminated medical equipment, vehicular and livestock trafficWorking Conditions / Physical Requirements:Heavy lifting, walking, long-term standing, climbing equipmentConstantly works in outdoor weather conditionsMust be able to lift 50+ pounds regularlyMoving machineryExtreme weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow, hair, heat, cold, wind, dust, etc.Benefits and PerksCompetitive Salary PackageMedical, Dental, Vision401k Company match Employer Paid Life InsuranceIt is our policy to provide equal employment opportunities and we will not unlawfully consider any factors of race, religion, age, creed, national origin, gender, disability veteran status or any and all other unlawful biases regarding federal, state or local laws with regard to workers or applicants.Friona Industries participates in E-Verify.
