COMMUNITY EDITORThe role of community editor is an opportunity to lead a teamthat is committed to excellence in journalism through service andleadership in the community. The Daily Press, based in Escanaba,Michigan, is seeking a leader that will serve the community andour readers through effective local reporting.The community editor will be responsible for directing thenewsroom staff in writing and producing a newspaper anddigital platforms that inform the community with timely, accurate,interesting, and compelling news, sports, and feature stories oflocal interest. The managing editor will be responsible for hiring,developing, scheduling, and motivating the newsroom team.We are looking for a candidate who is positive, outgoing, selfmotivated,detail-oriented, and willing to quickly adapt to meet thecommunity's needs. This is a unique opportunity to join our teamand to continue to uphold the values of excellence and servicethat The Daily Press has provided to Michigan's Upper Peninsulasince March 19, 1909.Essential Duties and Responsibilities* Oversee all editorial department operations.* Adapt to an ever-evolving journalism industry, which requiresflexibility, creativity, and implementation of synergistic solutions.* Help to develop and maintain an effective and efficient editorialdepartment strategy that focuses on local reporting of news,sports, people, entertainment, the arts, and the outdoors.* Be hands-on with the newsroom as a part of theteam, which includes writing, editing, and websitemaintenance. The community editor will help directdaily coverage and lead a daily budget meeting; planlong-term enterprise projects; work with reporters to improve theircopy; provide training and cross-training for various newsroomroles; work with page designers to improve the newspaper'sappearance; write and report on important local happenings; andkeep the community informed in a timely manner .* Uphold the newspaper's high standards of journalism.* Oversee the newspaper's digital presence through its websiteand also its social media platforms.* Assist in the process for talent acquisition to recruit and retainhigh quality employees with an opportunity to grow within thecompany.* Enhance the newspaper's presence in the community.* Coordinate and work cooperatively with other newspaperdepartments to maximize efficiency and effectiveness ofnewspaper operations.Requirements* Significant relevant newsroom experience.
