Job Role: Head Cook - Food Service for Williston School District #7Position Title: Food Service - Head Cook FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reporting To: Food Service Director, Head Cook, andBuilding PrincipalPosition Overview: The Head Cook plays a vital role in the food service department by assisting with the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals in the school cafeteria or central kitchen in the district. This position requires a dynamic individual who can efficiently manage food service operations while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.Key Responsibilities:Operate specialized kitchen equipment with proficiency.Assist in various food production, meal service, and cleanup activities as assigned.Receive, inspect, and unpack food and supply deliveries.Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of food service equipment and facilities.Engage in professional development opportunities regularly.Adhere to safety protocols and communicate any potentially hazardous conditions.Enforce compliance with federal and state nutrition standards.Build positive interactions with students, school staff, and the community.Process meal payments using Point of Sale (POS) software.Issue lunch balance notifications.Efficiently manage lunch line transactions for students.Ensure adequate provision of reimbursable meals to students.Assist in kitchen and cafeteria clean-up, as directed.Maintain records for audits and necessary reviews.Manage weekly grocery and bread orders.Keep an updated menu planning production book.Conduct inventory of kitchen supplies and equipment.Participate in and lead meal preparation, cooking, serving, and cleanup operations.Additional duties as assigned.Supervisory Duties: As the Head Cook, this role may include supervising food service employees at the assigned location.Qualifications: Minimum Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with a capacity for timely mitment to maintaining confidentiality in all professional matters.Effective communication abilities with students, staff, and the public.Demonstrated openness to others' ideas, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a positive team environment.Ability to adhere to established policies and procedures with diligence.Skilled at prioritizing tasks and optimizing use of time.Capability to engage with others tactfully.Responsible for following instructions and taking accountability for mitment to ethical standards and confidentiality in dealings.Resourceful in meeting challenges and proposing work improvement suggestions.Technical Skills: Basic computer skills are preferred.Education and Experience: A high school diploma or GED is necessary. Previous experience or training in food service is favorable.Physical Requirements: While executing the roles associated with this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and utilize hands for various tasks, reach with hands and arms, and engage in verbal communication. The position may demand occasional bending, kneeling, or stooping. Employees should be able to frequently lift andor move items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.Working Environment: Employment terms are defined within a 189-day calendar.
