Bunzl Retail Services is seeking a highly motivated and forward?thinking Financial Operations Specialist to join our finance team. The Financial Operations Specialist is responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving electronic data interchange (EDI) and financial transaction issues across the order-to-cash lifecycle. The candidate will be comfortable managing, organizing, and analyzing large amounts of data. The primary focus will be on root cause analysis, continuous process improvement, and the development of scalable solutions to prevent issue recurrence. While the initial priority is with EDI, the expectation and growth opportunity for the role is that the individual will become an Operations Specialist for all aspects of Finance, IT, and Customer Experience.The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who approaches challenges creatively, collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and leverages insights to drive operational excellence across the customer base.This role is hybrid in the Morton Grove, IL Office. Responsibilities:Manage large amounts of data including organizing, analyzing, reconciling, and resolving data discrepanciesInvestigate and resolve EDI-related errors impacting invoicing, payments, remittances, and customer transactionsPerform root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and implement sustainable corrective actionsPartner with cross-functional teams (Finance, IT, Customer Experience, Sales Operations) to resolve discrepancies, including designing new workflows and processesCollaborate directly with external customer teams to troubleshoot issues and align solutionsDesign, document, and implement process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalabilityMonitor recurring issues and develop proactive strategies to eliminate repeat errorsAnalyze transaction data and trends to identify systemic issues and optimization opportunitiesResubmit corrected invoices or purchase orders to clear discrepanciesSupport onboarding of new customersvendors by ensuring EDI and financial process readinessDevelop and maintain process documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge-sharing materialsContribute to automation initiatives and system enhancements related to financial operationsProvide regular recurring reports to present status updates and next steps to leadershipWillingness to challenge existing processes and develop new solutionsStrong partnership with internal teams and external customersTakes ownership of issues through resolution and preventionRequirements:Bachelors degree preferred.Experience in customer-facing roles preferredDemonstrated success troubleshooting transactional or system-based issuesExperience working with multiple EDI platforms (ANSI X12, EDIFACT, XML) or Spend Management Platforms (e.g., Coupa, Ariba).Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.Ensure accuracy in financial transactions and data handlingAbility to diagnose complex issues and identify root causes Comfortable working with large volumes of data and deciphering mismatches, discrepancies, and variancesPrior experience in retail inventory, project management, or supply distribution is a plus, but not required.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with reporting tools such as Power BI and AS400 (JANUS) is advantageousBunzl is a global leader in the Cleaning & Hygiene, Food Processing, Grocery, Health Care, Non?Food Retail, and Safety industries.
