Job Description:We are a leader in premier heavy civil construction in the Greater NYC area. We are seeking a skilled and dependable Shop Mechanic to join our heavy civil construction team. The Shop Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of heavy construction equipment and vehicles. This includes diesel-powered machinery from major manufacturers such as Caterpillar (CAT), John Deere, and other leading brands. This position is based primarily in the shop, with occasional field service as needed.Key Responsibilities:Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks, compactors, and other construction machinery.Work on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, undercarriages, and powertrain components.Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using OEM diagnostic tools and service manuals.Perform routine servicing to minimize equipment downtime and support project efficiency.Document all maintenance work, inspections, and parts used in repair logs or computerized maintenance systems.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the shop.Collaborate with operators and site supervisors to prioritize repairs and equipment readiness.Adhere to all company safety protocols and OSHA regulations.Provide occasional on-site equipment support and emergency repairs when required.Qualifications:Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working on heavy construction equipment, including diesel-powered CAT and John Deere machinery.High school diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment preferred.Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic and electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic software.Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.Valid driver's license (CDL preferred but not required).Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments.If this opportunity aligns with your interests, please feel free to share your updated resume and project list along with your salary expectations.
