Responsibilities: Receives specimens of tissue and ensures proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samplesProcesses paperwork associated with accessioning and reportingPerforms routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologist(s), per established SOP'sPrepares tissue specimens with chemicals, slicing, and mounting on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysisEmbeds processed tissue in paraffinPerforms coverslipping of stained slides either manually or automatedPerforms all special stain procedures per established guidelinesPerforms filing of finished blocks and slidesHelps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflowReports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment, and supplies to the department supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolutionResponds promptly to pathologists, technologists, and administrative requestsMaintains laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning, performing or scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance/calibration/certification, as required. Documents remedial actions such as repairs or repeated testsDemonstrates initiative in making suggestions to improve efficiency and productivity and provides consistent feedbackAttends monthly department and any additional training/educational meetingsParticipates in quality control initiatives. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutionsQualifications: Associates degree in field and completed one year internship or completed a long-term training program in histopathology.Nationally: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP)1+ years of equivalent experience as a Histotechnician preferred
