Job Description

Postdoctoral Scholar Opportunity | Alzheimer's Disease | UC San DiegoWe are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to join an interdisciplinary research program focused on Alzheimer's disease, neuroimmune regulation, neurovascular biology, mouse models, and therapeutic discovery. The postdoc will contribute to integrated projects spanning disease mechanism, preclinical therapeutic studies, and in vitro small-molecule screening using cell lines and human iPSC-based systems. A major component of the position will be helping establish and optimize in-house cognitive and behavioral assays for Alzheimer's disease-related mouse studies. The ideal candidate will bring strong experimental rigor, enjoy both in vivo and in vitro work, and thrive in a collaborative translational research environment.Required qualifications· PhD in neuroscience, immunology, or a related field.· In vivo CNS perturbation expertise, including experience with viral delivery and/or gene modulation approaches in mouse models, as well as experimental design and validation of perturbations in brain tissue.· Mouse genetics and conditional knockout expertise, including familiarity with transgenic mouse models, Cre-loxP strategies, inducible alleles, genotyping, colony management, and interpretation of cell-compartment-specific phenotypes.· Behavioral testing expertise, particularly assays used in Alzheimer's disease research, with hands-on experience in Morris water maze and novel object recognition strongly preferred among required behavioral skills.· Experience with additional AD-relevant behavioral assays is highly valuable, including Y-maze or spontaneous alternation, Barnes maze, contextual fear conditioning, open field, rotarod, and visible-platform or sensory-motor control assays needed for rigorous interpretation of cognitive phenotypes.· Experience with mouse brain tissue collection, histology, immunostaining, microscopy, and quantitative image analysis.· Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.· Strong written and oral communication skills and a publication record appropriate for career stage.Preferred qualifications· Cell type-specific in vivo CNS perturbation expertise, including design and implementation of compartment-targeted perturbation strategies in the brain.· Experience with stereotaxic surgery, AAV-mediated delivery, and validation of targeting efficiency, cell-type specificity, and downstream molecular effects.· Experience with Alzheimer's disease mouse models and studies linking neuroimmune or neurovascular biology to cognition.· Experience with in vitro phenotypic assays, small-molecule screening, and cell line or iPSC-based culture systems.· Familiarity with transcriptomic (single cell RNA-seq), molecular, or quantitative imaging readouts that can support mechanistic and therapeutic studies.Project areas· Neuroimmune and neurovascular mechanisms in Alzheimer's disease.· Preclinical studies in transgenic or other mouse models, including cognition and tissue-based endpoint analysis.· In vitro therapeutic testing and small-molecule screening in cell lines or human iPSC-derived systems.· Development and optimization of AD-relevant behavioral workflows for in-house mouse studies.Application materialsPlease submit:· Curriculum vitae· Brief statement of research interests and relevant technical expertise· Names and contact information for references
