SummaryThe Staff Metrology Engineer leads precision measurement and dimensional quality efforts across advanced manufacturing operations. This role develops measurement plans, programs CMMs, uses noncontact 3D scanning systems, integrates metrology into production lines, and performs metrology techniques relevant to metallic components. Strong expertise in GD&T, dimensional analysis, and materialrelated measurement behaviors is essential. Key Responsibilities• Develop and execute measurement plans using tactile CMMs and highresolution optical/structuredlight scanning systems. • Interpret GD&T and translate feature controls into robust inspection routines, datum schemes, and fixturing strategies. • Perform dimensional analysis on metal components, including measurements of wallthickness variation, roundness, straightness, deformation, and postprocess geometry changes due to forming or heat exposure. • Analyze CMM and 3D scan data to diagnose geometric variation tied to material behavior (springback, distortion, thermal effects). • Integrate metrology systems into manufacturing lines, including inline or nearline inspection, automated routines, and feedback loops to process controls. • Lead MSA activities (GR&R, stability, uncertainty) for both tactile and noncontact systems. • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional issues and align GD&T with material capability. • Support deployment of automated or semiautomated inspection workflows to improve throughput and repeatability. • Train engineers and technicians in GD&T, measurement fundamentals, and materialspecific metrology considerations. Qualifications• Strong experience in CMM programming and operation. • Proficiency with noncontact 3D measurement systems (optical/structuredlight) and scandata analysis. • Expert understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5. • Experience measuring metallic components, including analysis of formingrelated deformation, material springback, geometric stability, and wallthickness consistency. • Demonstrated experience integrating metrology processes into production lines. • Strong analytical skills (SPC, Cp/Cpk, data visualization). • Background supporting machining, forming, heattreat, or assembly processes where dimensional accuracy drives performance. Preferred Skills• Experience correlating tactile and optical measurement data for metallic components. • Familiarity with pointcloud/mesh analysis, thickness mapping, and deviationfromnominal evaluation. • Understanding of fixturing, thermal compensation, and errormapping in measurement of metal parts. • Experience in automated inspection stations or closedloop dimensional feedback systems.
