Job Description

We are seeking a Human Resources Manager to support HR initiatives across our growing portfolio. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, this role leads day-to-day HR operations, focusing on employee relations, workplace investigations, compliance, and risk management, while supervising HR team members. This is an ideal opportunity for a strong HR professional who thrives in a fast-paced field-based environment and can balance strategy with day-to-day execution.ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team OversightSupervise and support HR team members (e.g., HR Generalists/Coordinators)Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedbackPartner with the Director of HR to implement HR priorities and initiativesEmployee Relations & InvestigationsAct as a primary escalation point for complex employee relations issuesConduct and oversee thorough, compliant workplace investigationsAdvise managers on performance management, corrective action, and terminationsPromote consistency and fairness across all propertiesCompliance & Legal PartnershipEnsure compliance with California and multi-state employment lawsPartner with the Director of HR and legal counsel on higher-risk mattersSupport responses to agency claims and audits (EEOC, CRD, DOL, etc.)Assist in rolling out HR policies, procedures, and trainingClaims & Risk ManagementManage employee-related claims including workers' compensation and EPLICoordinate with insurance carriers and legal partnersTrack trends and recommend proactive risk mitigation strategiesHR OperationsOversee onboarding/offboarding and HR compliance processesExtensive knowledge of employment & labor law, OSHA regulations, workers' compensation procedures, and benefits administrationSupport audits (I-9s, personnel files) and HR best practicesPartner with payroll and benefits teams on issue resolutionEnsure consistency across a multi-site, decentralized workforceProvide direct coverage for HR Generalist responsibilities as needed, including during absences, high-volume periods, or open vacancies, ensuring continuity of HR support across the organizationLead all aspects of human resources functions including recruitment, onboarding, employee orientation, and talent sourcing to attract top talent for property management rolesDevelop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals, including succession planning, performance management, and organizational designAdminister employee benefits programs, payroll processing using systems like Workday or ADP, and manage workers' compensation claims with precision and complianceEnsure adherence to employment laws such as FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and other labor regulations; provide guidance on contracts and legal compliance issuesManage employee relations by resolving conflicts effectively through negotiation and conflict management techniques; foster an inclusive environment that promotes employee engagementOversee HRIS (Human Resources Information System) data collection, analysis, and reporting to support strategic decision-making; utilize platforms like SAP SuccessFactors or Oracle HCM for efficient HR operationsConduct training & development sessions to enhance employee skills; facilitate change management initiatives to improve processes and organizational effectivenessQualificationsBachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field6 - 8 years of HR experience, with strong employee relations focusPrior supervisory or lead experience requiredStrong knowledge of California employment lawExperience handling investigations and sensitive employee mattersAbility to support remote, field-based teamsHR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP) preferredExperience in property management, hospitality, or service industries with a dispersed workforceSkillsExecution-focused leader who can independently manage complex HR issuesComfortable operating in a player-coach roleStrong judgment, discretion, and ability to influence at multiple levelsExperience in property management, hospitality, or service industries with a dispersed workforceSpanish multilingual ability, a plusPay range and compensation packageCompensation will be determined based on relevant experience.Equal Opportunity StatementAperto Property Management, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.Why Join Aperto?Growth-oriented environment with expanding portfolioOpportunity to partner closely with HR leadershipStrong benefits and supportive cultureApply Now and discover why Aperto is the place for property management professionals who want to make a real difference in affordable housing!
