Job Description

Sr. Research AssociateOn-site South San Francisco $88,000-115,000About our Client: Our client is using the emerging tools of genetic medicine to engineer cures for human diseases. They believe these powerful new approaches can be used to treat, or cure, common diseases that affect large patient populations. To realize this vision, they are building therapeutics that modify and control multiple genes at the DNA, RNA, and protein levels in vivo. Our client fosters a vibrant, collaborative environment where individuals can perform exceptional science while bringing their full selves to work. As they continue to grow, we are seeking highly motivated, creative Research Associates to join the team.About the Role:As a Senior Research Associate, working on the Product Engineering team, you will play a key role at the intersection of molecular biology, computational biology, and therapeutic development. This is a highly hands-on, bench-focused position where you will contribute to the design, build, and testing of novel gene editing systems. You will help translate computational and AI-driven design hypotheses into experimental validation, supporting rapid iteration of therapeutic editing modalities. Working cross-functionally with computational scientists, molecular biologists, and therapeutic program teams, you will contribute to advancing next-generation genetic medicines.Key Responsibilities:Design, execute, analyze, and document experiments to support gene editing platform and therapeutic developmentTranslate computational and AI-predicted designs into testable experimental systemsPerform gene editing experiments in mammalian cell lines and primary cells using standardized, high-throughput (96-well) workflowsConduct plasmid transfections and assess editing outcomes using techniques such as flow cytometry, qPCR, and other molecular assaysApply molecular biology techniques including cloning (e.g., Gibson assembly), plasmid preparation, PCR, and construct QCSupport production of research-scale AAV vectors for delivery of gene editing systemsEvaluate biological and molecular impacts of gene editing candidates in relevant in vitro (and potentially in vivo) model systemsCollaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive rapid design-build-test cyclesMaintain accurate, detailed experimental records and present findings to internal stakeholdersProvide general laboratory support, organization, and maintenanceRequirements:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Neuroscience, or a related life sciences fieldMinimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience in industry researchStrong experimentalist with the ability to independently execute the full design-build-test-analyze cycleHands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, including human cell lines and transfection techniquesProficiency in core molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, PCR, plasmid prep)Experience with flow cytometry and gene expression or editing analysis methods (e.g., qPCR)Strong understanding of cell engineering and tissue culture best practicesFamiliarity with high-throughput workflows and data-driven experimental designExcellent attention to detail and commitment to thorough experimental documentationProven ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams (computational + wet lab)Adaptability in a fast-paced, iterative research environmentPreferred QualificationsExperience with CRISPR-Cas or related gene editing technologies in therapeutic applicationsExperience with AAV or other viral vector systemsExposure to therapeutic target evaluation and optimization strategies
