Controls Engineer Location: Grand Rapids, MichiganSalary: 85K - 115KSchedule: Monday - Friday; 8AM - 5PMCompany Summary:Medix is partnered with a contract packaging organization (CPO) based in Grand Rapids, Michigan that specializes in supporting companies across the pharma, medical device, and consumer health industries. Rather than manufacturing products, this organization focuses on delivering scalable packaging solutions, including primary and secondary packaging such as bottling, blistering, kitting, and labeling. As a Controls Engineer, you'll play a central role in driving automation excellence"”designing, optimizing, and supporting the systems that power critical pharmaceutical packaging operations. If you enjoy solving complex challenges, collaborating cross-functionally, and seeing your work translate into real-world results, this role provides that platform.Responsibilities:Design, develop, and maintain PLC, HMI, and control system programs for packaging and processing equipmentSupport new equipment installations, startups, and product launches, including control system integrationTroubleshoot and resolve electrical and controls-related issues on production equipment in a timely mannerPartner with Engineering and Operations teams to improve equipment performance, efficiency, and reliabilityAssist with equipment qualification activities, including IQ/OQ/PQ protocolsDevelop and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, and system documentationProvide technical support and training to maintenance and production personnel on control systemsCollaborate with external vendors and system integrators to design and implement automation solutionsMonitor system performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to controls and automationEnsure compliance with internal policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirementsSupport data collection and integration with plant systems, including ERP or reporting tools where applicableMaintain backups and version control for all control programs and related documentationPerform additional duties as needed to support efficient operationsQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)3+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls engineering, ideally within manufacturing or packagingHands-on experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar platforms)Familiarity with vision systems, motion control, and robotics is a plus
