Job Description

Maret School is seeking a highly skilled and hard working Building Maintenance Engineer to join our Facilities Department in creating a safe, efficient, and comfortable environment for the school community. This role reports to a seasoned Director of Facilities. The Maintenance Engineer is part of a team that takes on a wide variety of assignments from minor to multi-faceted and provides complex planned maintenance and in-house repairs to extend the lifespan of equipment, prevent breakdowns, and optimize performance. Importantly, the Maintenance Engineer must be a collaborative, hard-working, and creative problem-solver. Other related duties may be assigned from time to time to meet the school's needs.HVAC Maintenance and RepairComplete complex maintenance on HVAC equipment such as chillers, pneumatic controls, lochinvars, VAV systems, VRF systems, air compressors, pumps, and boilersIdentify, diagnose, and promptly address malfunctions with HVAC equipment, coordinating with the Director of Facilities and outside vendors as neededMechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Maintenance and RepairRegularly inspect MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems for operability and to identify repair needs, documenting as neededComplete identified MEP repairs, coordinating with the Director of Facilities and outside vendors as neededProactively maintain and repair building components including doors, door hardware, electrical switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, toilets, etc.Desired Expertise and ExperienceDemonstrated knowledge of HVAC, electricity, plumbing, and maintenanceAbility to use wide variety of tools and test equipment in performing repairs and maintenanceWashington, DC, Stationary Engineer licenseChlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certificate or equivalentHeating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration certificationStrong understanding of fire control panels and sprinkler systemsHigh School diploma or GEDExcellent oral and written communication skillsFamiliarity with applicable technology systems (Microsoft Office suite, Asset Essentials ticketing system, BAS and access control)Physical and Mental RequirementsAbility to effectively read, write, and otherwise communicate in EnglishCapable of bending, stretching, reaching, lifting, and/or standing for extended periods and the ability to carry, lift, or drag heavy items (up to 50 pounds)Sensory requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to hear voices, alarms, bells, and hornsWillingness to work overtime as neededA successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:Consistent attention to detailAbility to read and understand construction plans and blueprintsAbility to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a teamCommitment to professional development of self and othersStrong organizational and time-management skillsAbility to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of actionProfessional, cooperative, and courteous mannerAbility to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environmentHourly Wage$35/hour to $45/hour, dependent on experience and qualificationsMaret's dynamic community and campus in the midst of Washington, DC, create a unique learning environment for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
