Accounts GeneralistStatusFull-time / ExemptCompensation$46,000-$48,000 annuallyAbout Us:Established in 1956, Laughlin Children's Center, empowers children, teams, andfamilies through client-centered clinical and academic services in a safe, supportiveenvironment - helping every child thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Ourclinical teams offer speech and occupational screenings and therapy,neuropsychological evaluations, counseling, and behavioral health services. In ourpreschool, we offer a half-day play-based curriculum, and for school-aged children, weoffer academic evaluations, traditional tutoring, and specialized instruction for childrenwith Dyslexia.The Opportunity:Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accounts Generalist will join the team as webring our bookkeeping in-house and consolidate client financial services. They'll beresponsible for the day-to-day accounting operations of the department, contributing tomission-first process design and improvement, and they'll provide client-centeredservices for staff, clients, and families. Over the next year, the newly formed departmentwill design new processes, hone the chart of accounts and support software changes.Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesAccounting operationsProcess transactions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and journal entries.Reconcile accounts, generate reports, and support compliance.Maintain paper and electronic records.Develop and document procedures and champion continuous improvement.Client support servicesSupport client enrollment, intake, and onboarding.Provide customer service for clients, families, and internal stakeholders.Centralized purchasing and contractingFacilitate vendor acceptance and contracting.Help staff with purchases and expense reports.Streamline purchasing processes.Change management and culture buildingPropose practices that operationalize Laughlin's core values, including diversity and inclusion.Balance ongoing change with consistency.Articulate the "why" behind changes to staff and clients Required Skills and ExperienceThe successful candidate will:Have a strong grasp of the framework, organization, rules, and language of nonprofit accounting, including GAAP, nonprofit revenue recognition, and fund accounting (acquired through education or experience).Be able to perform core accounting cycles and tasks: expenses and payables, revenue and receivables, allocations, accruals, reconciliations, budget and reporting.Be fluent in Excel and comfortable with heavy pivot table use; be familiar with relational databases.Enjoy explaining things to, and designing forms and guidance for learners with diverse processing, communication, and learning styles.Effectively prioritize and organize time and work, communicate clearly and frequently, and elevate team success over individual achievement.Desirable Skills and ExperiencePreference will be given to candidates who:Are familiar with designing and evaluating internal controls and can articulate the difference between a preventive and a detective control.Have worked within a nonprofit general ledger, QuickBooks (Desktop or Online) or patient management system.Working ConditionsThis position works on-site in an office setting with the opportunity to design work forhybrid flexibility in the future.
