Consilio's Direct Hire Division is partnering with a globally recognized Am Law firm to fill a Director of IP Operations role. The position is open in Denver, Palo Alto, San Diego, San Francisco, New York City, Washington, DC, Boston, and Chicago.Position ResponsibilitiesOperations & StrategyEvaluate and improve processes, systems, and workflows supporting Patent and TCA practices, ensuring compliance and risk mitigationOversee IP systems, including IP Management System performance, integrations, and technology adoptionPartner with Legal Intelligence, Technology, and Innovation teams to vet tools and optimize resourcesEstablish accountability metrics, quality controls, and performance reporting to drive efficiency and accuracyLead billing strategy for fixed/flat fee structures, including cost analysis and process improvementsCollaborate cross-functionally to enhance workflows (intake, transfers, disengagements, file management, BD support)Leadership & Team ManagementLead, develop, and mentor managers and supervisors; delegate effectively across teamsDrive high-quality service delivery, consistency, and strong client experienceOversee hiring, performance management, coaching, and employee development in partnership with HRMonitor productivity and ensure compliance with firm policies and standardsBest Practices & TrainingLead Patent Best Practices Committee operations and ensure implementation of policiesCoordinate onboarding and supplemental training for IP timekeepers and staffPartner with practice leaders and resource attorneys to align procedures and training with firm standardsLearning & DevelopmentAlign training programs and learning paths with departmental goalsCollaborate with HR and leadership to enhance technical and soft skills developmentSupport development of high-performing IP professionals and specialistsPractice & Office SupportAct as a key IP Services contact for local office operations and issue resolutionBuild strong relationships with practitioners to ensure responsive, effective supportGeneral & Strategic ResponsibilitiesServe as a strategic partner driving innovation, operational improvements, and risk mitigationLead cross-functional projects and facilitate stakeholder meetingsCommunicate clearly and effectively across all levels of the organizationManage special projects and provide backup support to IP leadershipSkills & Experience Required10+ years IP experience, including 5+ years in management (preferably in a law firm)Proven leadership experience managing and developing teams across functionsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skillsBachelor's degree or equivalent experienceProficiency in Microsoft Office and firm systemsFlexibility for travel and extended hours as neededPreferredExperience in law firm or professional services environmentFamiliarity with USPTO, WIPO, EPO, and global IP databasesWorking knowledge of USPTO rules, MPEP, TMEP, and related regulationsThe firm offers a full range of elective benefits including medical, health savings account (with applicable medical plan), dental, vision, health and/or dependent care flexible spending accounts, pre-tax commuter benefits, life insurance, AD&D, long-term care coverage, backup care for children and/or adults and other parental support benefits.
