Job Title: Director of ManufacturingLocation: Shelton, CTType: Direct HireSalary: Total Compensation Package $280K -$340K: $200K-$250K base salary, relocation assistance, annual performance bonus historically in the $50K range, plus additional incentive compensation averaging approximately $30K-$40K based on recent years.Position OverviewWe are seeking a high-energy, hands-on Director of Manufacturing to lead a fast-paced metal fabrication operation. This role is responsible for overseeing all manufacturing functions, driving operational performance, and scaling production as the business continues to grow.This is a leadership role for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, can manage multiple priorities, and is comfortable being both strategic and hands-on on the shop floor.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage all manufacturing operations including production, maintenance, production control, and shipping/receivingDrive production performance to meet schedules, customer deadlines, and quality standardsEstablish and manage KPIs focused on safety, quality, delivery, and costImplement continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processesImprove efficiency through cost reduction, waste reduction, and productivity improvementsLead hiring, training, development, and performance management of manufacturing teamsManage capacity planning and production scheduling to support business growthPartner with engineering and quality teams to optimize manufacturing processesEnsure compliance with safety standards and industry regulationsMaintain clear communication of priorities and accountability across all levels of the organizationSupport strategic planning and participate in leadership-level decision makingEvaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to enhance operationsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred (advanced degree a plus)Minimum 7+ years of experience leading manufacturing operations in a metal fabrication or machine shop environmentProven experience managing mid-to-large manufacturing teams (~100+ employees)Strong hands-on leadership style with the ability to engage directly on the production floorAbility to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and shifting demands in a fast-paced environmentExperience with sheet metal fabrication processes including laser cutting, punching, forming, and press brake operationsExperience with machining (3, 4, 5-axis), milling, and turningFamiliarity with welding processes (MIG/TIG), finishing, coating, and mechanical assemblyStrong understanding of quality control, inspection processes, and manufacturing standardsAbility to read and interpret mechanical drawings, weld symbols, and GD&TExperience leading multi-shift operations or scaling production capacity is a strong plusStrong leadership, communication, and team development skillsLeadership ProfileHands-on leader who leads from the front and builds respect through actionStrong decision-maker who can operate effectively in a fast-moving environmentAble to balance production demands, team leadership, and operational efficiencyFocused on accountability, performance, and continuous improvementSkilled at motivating, developing, and managing diverse teamsWork EnvironmentFast-paced metal fabrication and manufacturing environmentGrowing organization with increasing production demandsOpportunity to build structure, improve processes, and scale operationsAbout UsTop Prospect Group is a technical staffing firm specializing in placing engineering and manufacturing professionals nationwide.
