Some of the industries served include plastics, laser, heat treating, food processing, machine tool, plating, anodizing, chemical, die casting, optical coating, and printing.Role - Environmental Health and Safety TechnicianThe EHS Technician supports the operations department. The role combines administrative duties for an organization's environmental health & safety program with technical writing, cross-functional communication, and workflow optimization to support both internal teams and external customers to ensure compliance with local, state & federal standards. This position will report to Quality / EHS and is located in Niles, Illinois.Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead cross-functional teams involving production resources to comply with OSHA guidelinesWork across multiple brands to create, update and implement new safety policies, procedures, etc.Inspect site to identify environmental, chemical & health hazards and assess risk to ensure proper controls are in place to mitigate impacts on the company and our surrounding communitiesMaintain SDS libraryConduct safety meetings, Shop Safety Training, review safety policies as necessaryMaintain safety incident, near miss reportingPerform safety audits for both office & manufacturing warehouse, crane inspections, chain inspections, etc.Initiate and drive projects to improve safetyPreemptively identifies environmental concerns and hazards and develops action plans to mitigate the riskCorrect unsafe acts or conditions through regular line of authorityMay exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is requiredConduct annual inspections of harness, slings, lanyards and retractableInstall OSHA Compliant systems / procedure to address known shortcomingsPrepare and maintain documentation for compliance for both organization and regulatory standardsConfirm evacuation Rosters are maintained along with evacuation equipmentEffectively work within a team and across all departmentsAbility to read and understand blueprintsWork with minimal supervision and maximum self-motivationProvide environmental support to all areas of the company and for regulatory complianceConduct Job Hazard AnalysisAdvise and instruct on various safety related topics (noise levels, Haz mat 'l storage, etc.)Responds to Employee's safety concernsArrange for OSHA mandated testing and / or evaluations of the workplace by external agenciesIdentify, document, and recommend resolutions to hazardous or potentially hazardous situationsTrains & educate employees on environmental impacts, regulatory compliance & best practicesQualificationsTechnical Writing - Can develop clean, understandable SOPs or quality-related instructionsTechnical Drawings - Can read and understand drawings for needed partsProject Coordination - Capable of handling multiple deadlines and improving team processesCRM/ERP Proficiency - Familiar with M2M, SAP, or similar systemsInitiative & Judgment - Not just reactive"”can anticipate needs and build / order accordinglyRequirementsAssociates degree required, Bachelor's degree preferredMinimum (2) years' experience in manufacturing facility safety role requiredFunctional knowledge of email (Outlook preferred), Microsoft Windows & Microsoft OfficeExcellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrate professional communicationExceptional organizational skills with attention to detailAbility to resolve issues through personal involvement or delegation to other personnel as directed by managementMust have a positive attitude; dependable and eager to learnDesire to spend time on the shop floor vs. the officePiovanGroup is a world leader in the development and production of systems for the automation of production processes for the storage, transport and treatment of polymers, plastic, and food powders.
