Water Distribution EngineerThe Water Distribution Engineer supports the planning, design, operation, and optimization of treatment, transmission, and distribution systems. This role ensures the reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of water infrastructure while contributing to long-term system resilience, capital improvements, and customer service excellence. The engineer works closely with Operations, Treatment, Distribution, GIS, and external consultants to maintain and improve one of the region's most critical public water systems.ResponsibilitiesDevelop engineering solutions for water treatment, pumping, storage, and distribution system needs.Conduct hydraulic modeling, flow analysis, and system capacity evaluations to support operational decisions and capital planning.Prepare engineering reports, feasibility studies, and technical recommendations for system improvements.Support long-term infrastructure planning, including master planning and asset management initiatives.Assist in the design, specification, and procurement of equipment, materials, and services for water system projects.Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and internal teams during design and construction phases.Review engineering drawings, submittals, and change orders for accuracy and compliance with CWA standards.Provide field engineering support during construction, testing, and commissioning of new facilities.Analyze operational data from treatment plants, pump stations, tanks, and distribution networks to improve performance and reliability.Support optimization of treatment processes, chemical dosing, and energy usage.Troubleshoot system issues related to pressure, flow, water quality, and equipment performance.Collaborate with Distribution crews on main replacements, valve programs, leak detection, and emergency response.Support compliance with PA DEP, EPA, and Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.Assist with sampling plans, reporting, and documentation for regulatory programs.Participate in water quality investigations and corrective action planning.Maintain accurate engineering records, GIS data, and system maps.Support condition assessments, risk evaluations, and prioritization of infrastructure investments.Utilize SCADA, GIS, hydraulic models, and asset management tools to inform decision-making.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.2-5 years of engineering experience in water, wastewater, or municipal infrastructure.Knowledge of water treatment processes, distribution systems, and hydraulic principles.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic engineering software.EIT certification or ability to obtainExperience with hydraulic modeling software (e.g., WaterGEMS, InfoWater).Familiarity with GIS, SCADA systems, and asset management platforms.Experience working with public utilities, regulatory agencies, or municipal engineering projects.
