Houston, TX (5 days in-office)Company OverviewOur client is a Houston-based, family-owned real estate investment and development platform with a 25+ year track record of acquiring, developing, and operating retail, industrial, and select office assets.The firm owns and operates a portfolio of ~80 properties and is backed by a multi-billion-dollar affiliated operating business, providing consistent access to capital and long-term stability.With immediate deployable equity and a mandate to grow, the company is entering a major expansion phase focused on scaling its investment platform across the Texas Triangle and select national markets.The OpportunityThis is a newly created, highly strategic leadership role.The Chief Investment Officer will serve as the #2 executive in the business, working directly with the Founder to:Drive acquisitions and development strategyDeploy capital across new investmentsBuild and scale the investment platformPotentially raise outside capital for larger opportunitiesThis is a build-from-scratch CIO role with significant autonomy and a clear path to broader executive leadership (President-level).Key ResponsibilitiesInvestments & AcquisitionsSource and execute acquisitions across retail and industrial assetsBuild and maintain a strong pipeline across Houston and the Texas Triangle (DFW, Austin, San Antonio)Lead underwriting, financial modeling, and investment committee materialsStructure transactions, including debt and equity componentsStrategy & Platform BuildingEstablish and scale the acquisitions/investment functionDevelop sourcing strategy, broker relationships, and off-market channelsHelp define portfolio strategy and geographic expansionCapital MarketsEvaluate and execute on bringing in outside capital partnersStructure joint ventures and equity partnershipsLeverage existing family capital to maximize returnsLeadershipAct as right-hand to FounderHelp oversee broader business operations and strategic initiativesBuild and lead an investment team over timeCandidate Profile10-15+ years of experience in real estate acquisitions, development, or investmentsStrong experience in retail and/or industrial assetsDeep relationships across Houston and the Texas TriangleProven ability to source and close deals independentlyStrong financial modeling and underwriting capabilities
