Control System Designer (I&C Designer)Position SummaryThe Control System Designer performs I&C design work of intermediate to advanced complexity in support of a nuclear EPC project, producing instrument drawings, panel layouts, and 3D models. Working under the direction of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor, this role supports instrument specification, SPI database management, and field design activities.Project OverviewThis position supports a major nuclear EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project at a uranium enrichment facility in the United States. The work is performed under federal regulatory oversight and a nuclear quality assurance program. Candidates will join a multi-discipline engineering team executing one of the largest domestic nuclear fuel-cycle expansion projects in decades.Work LocationIn-office. Locations vary by assignment (Houston, TX).Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and check I&C designs utilizing 3D modeling and 2D CADD automation tools.Develop and modify instrument design documents including I/O wiring diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, cable schedules, and instrument installation details.Support development and maintenance of the instrument index and datasheets in Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) database, including loading I/O assignments, alarms, and setpoints.Walk down field systems with minimal guidance, interpret field direction, generate design details, create new drawings, modify existing drawings, and direct junior drafters when assigned.Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations.Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients.Execute work in compliance with the Project Quality Plan, approved scope, cost, and schedule baselines.Support procurement (vendor submittal reviews) and construction administration (RFIs, field changes).Basic Job RequirementsAssociate degree in a related technical field of study.Minimum ten (10) years of work-related experience in drafting/design related to engineering and construction (nuclear preferred).Background must include drafting/designer experience in instrumentation and controls, electrical, or communications.U.S. Citizenship is required (no exceptions).Working knowledge of applicable federal codes and standards, including U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, and applicable state and local codes.Ability to communicate effectively with project management, peers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.Ability to work in a time-conscious, deadline-driven environment with attention to detail.Intermediate computer skills including word processing, email, spreadsheets, and electronic presentations.Experience providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services on commercial or industrial projects.Proficiency executing EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling, and 2D CADD automation tools in a multi-discipline environment.Knowledge of I&C discipline codes and standards.Preferred QualificationsProficiency in Bentley MicroStation and AutoCAD.Proficiency in 3D modeling using Intergraph Smart3D (S3D).Proficiency with Intergraph SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI), including loading and extracting I/O information from the SPI database.Experience with instrument loop development and wiring diagram preparation.Familiarity with HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL processes.Prior EPC experience supporting U.S. Department of Energy or other federal government agency projects.Experience with design of systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA-1.Experience in regulated industries (nuclear, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing).Practical field experience supporting construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
