Position OverviewThe Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for leading and supporting the design, development, and integration of electromagnetic rotating machines, including AC/DC motors and generators. This role plays a critical part in ensuring mechanical integrity, performance optimization, and compliance with aerospace standards. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, hands-on experience with rotating equipment, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally across engineering and manufacturing teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead or support the mechanical design and integration of electromagnetic rotating machines (e.g., AC/DC motors, synchronous and asynchronous generators) Design, develop, and validate mechanical components including stators, rotors, laminations, end caps, bearings, and housings Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials for rotating machinery Perform mechanical analyses (e.g., FEA) to optimize performance, durability, and reliability Collaborate with electrical engineers to ensure alignment between electromagnetic and mechanical systems Support material selection for magnetic, structural, and thermal performance requirements Develop and execute qualification plans, including prototype builds and verification/validation testing (e.g., vibration, environmental, core loss testing) Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace and industry standards (FAA, EASA, MIL-STD, DO-160) Provide hands-on support for manufacturing, assembly, and troubleshooting on the shop floor Lead or contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions for design or test failures Drive continuous improvement initiatives across design, manufacturing, and testing processes Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership and guidance Adhere to all safety protocols, 5S standards, and contribute to a strong EHS culture Perform additional duties as assigned QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field 7+ years of experience in mechanical design and development of electromagnetic rotating machines, preferably within aerospace or a related industry Proven experience supporting testing, validation, and troubleshooting of motors, generators, or similar systems Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) Strong knowledge of GD&T and mechanical analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS or similar FEA software) Solid understanding of material properties relevant to electrical machines, including magnetic, thermal, and structural considerations Working knowledge of electromagnetic principles and their interaction with mechanical systems Familiarity with aerospace standards and regulatory requirements (FAA, EASA, MIL-STD, DO-160)
