We're looking for Directors of Operations in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, and Upstate South Carolina who can build a culture of accountability, develop leaders, and elevate performance across a region of stores. This role is designed for a hands-on, people-focused leader who values growth and operational excellence.Position SummaryProvides leadership and motivation within the region to promote a culture reflective of Food Lion's core values and vision. Develops talent throughout the region to meet the needs of the business and is directly accountable for the levels of talent at the region and store management level. Provides outstanding management skills for the region by furnishing necessary resources to allow the region to capitalize on immediate business opportunities while aggressively managing inefficiencies within the region, and stores. Represents the regional needs of the area when working within the corporate environment. Delivers financial results for their respective region.Principle Duties and ResponsibilitiesStrategic Planning activities required to interpret and shape company objectives for the region. Set region-specific objectives and ensure understanding and executionWorks with Store Managers to ensure that strategies are understood, subordinates see alignment between daily practices and strategies, plans are being carried out, performance measures are in place and individuals are held accountableReviews financial and operating results for the assigned region to determine where stores, and the region stand relative to budget; looks across region to:Identify trends and themes related to high or low performance; identify priorities for follow-up actionProvide guidance on, identify, and share best practices to increase sales and maximize profitabilityGuides Store Managers as needed in planning and executing programs to meet district needsRegional Oversight - sponsoring the implementation of policies and procedures across the region and monitoring practices to ensure standards are metEvaluates performance across the regionLook for pattern or inconsistencies from store to store, within and across the regionSponsors initiatives to investigate variances, addresses recurring performance issues and eliminates inefficiencies; ensures that root causes are determined, strategies and plans to address them are developed, and progress is monitoredUtilize EIS Team to monitor and implement standard practicesAssociate Management and Development Formal and informal talent management, development planning and performance management activities required to ensure that direct reports are performing to their full potentialArticulates clear standards for executional excellence and holds direct reports accountable for supporting and attaining themEncourages and teaches leadership behavior that lead to attracting, retaining and engaging high quality, diverse supervisors, managers and associatesWorks with Store Managers and Talent Development Specialists to identify and manage talent and ensure that staff in the region is continually building competencies to meet the current and long-term needs to the businessRecruits, selects, manages and develops Store Managers to be productive and efficientUtilizes organizational development training resources to build skills for Store Managers and grow capabilities across the regionReviews Store Manager strengths and development gaps, plans interventions with Store Managers to address specific knowledge or skill gaps, and works with Store Managers following up to insure executionBasic QualificationsIndirect or direct experience in multi-unit management or large teamsThorough understanding of store operations and total merchandising practicesProven track record to identify and foster talentAbility to bring people together across organizational boundaries to achieve results and share best practicesLead others through rapid change and uncertaintyLead and motivate a team to strive for excellence in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities and shifting demandsStrong strategic, cognitive and analytical skills, including problem solving analysis, decision making and financial analysisExtensive knowledge of the business and complete understanding of the impact on stakeholders of decisionsSeasoned knowledge of the company and a solid knowledge of industry practices and proceduresCustomer-focused orientationWell-articulated communication skillsProject Management experience desiredProven leadership and motivational skillsPreferred QualificationsProject Management experienceEducationBA or BS degree desiredExperience5 to 7 years of retail management experience requiredSkills and AbilitiesStrong communication skillsBasic computer knowledgeProven LeaderCustomer FocusPhysicalAbility to lift, push and pull 50lbs.Travel100%
