Preconstruction Estimator

The HT Group is partnering with a well-established commercial construction organization in the Austin area seeking an experienced Preconstruction Estimator to join their team. This individual will play a key role in leading estimating efforts from early concept through final bid, working cross-functionally with design, operations, and business development teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys both the technical and strategic aspects of preconstruction, while also building strong relationships with subcontractors and internal stakeholders. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of Design-Build experience within institutional construction, and is flexible with travel requirements. Key ResponsibilitiesPreconstruction & EstimatingLead estimating efforts from conceptual budgeting through final pricing across multiple project delivery methodsDevelop detailed budgets at various stages (conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP)Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to produce accurate cost estimatesPerform quantity takeoffs, pricing analysis, and value engineering recommendationsContinuously update estimates based on design changes, scope revisions, and market conditionsMaintain and leverage historical cost data to support accurate forecastingAssist with bid leveling, scope review, and subcontractor negotiationsSubcontractor & Vendor ManagementIdentify, qualify, and build relationships with subcontractors and suppliersManage bid solicitation processes and ensure competitive, complete coverageEvaluate subcontractor proposals to ensure alignment with project scope and risk considerationsPromote inclusive bidding practices and engagement with diverse trade partnersQualifications5-10+ years of experience in construction estimating, preconstruction, or related rolesStrong background in commercial, institutional, or education-related construction projects preferredExperience with conceptual estimating and managing multiple projects simultaneouslyProficiency in estimating and construction software (Sage/Timberline, eTakeoff, Bluebeam, etc.)Advanced Microsoft Excel skillsStrong understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and cost driversBachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
