Principal Engineer

We're partnered with a fast-scaling healthcare technology company building modern infrastructure that improves healthcare delivery and patient outcomes at scale.They're now looking for a Principal backend/platform engineer to help lead the evolution of a critical identity and access management platform supporting secure, scalable access across multiple products and services.This role sits at the intersection of backend engineering, cloud infrastructure, platform security, and modern AI-assisted engineering practices.What's on offerup to 250k+ up to 150k Bonus + meaningful equityRemote-first environment with strong flexibilityOpportunity to own and shape a critical platform domain at scaleHigh-impact role within a mission-driven healthcare technology businessCollaborative engineering culture investing heavily in AI-assisted development and modern platform engineeringThe MandateLead the modernisation and evolution of the company's identity and access management platformOwn authentication, authorization, SSO, and secure access infrastructure across multiple productsDesign and scale secure backend services and distributed systems in a cloud-native environmentDrive reliability, observability, monitoring, and rollout best practices across critical platform servicesPartner closely with Product, Security, SRE, and Engineering leadership on platform strategy and executionHelp define engineering standards, architecture direction, and long-term platform scalabilityMentor engineers and bring clarity to complex technical and operational challengesContribute to the adoption and evolution of AI-assisted engineering workflows across the organisationWhat We're Looking For10+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend and distributed systems expertiseDeep experience building identity and access management systems (OAuth2, SAML, JWT, SSO)Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS, and modern cloud infrastructureExpertise across AWS and Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform preferred)Experience designing highly scalable, resilient, production-grade systemsStrong architectural reasoning and ability to own systems end-to-endComfortable operating across cross-functional teams including Product, Security, and SREStrong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical conceptsExperience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and workflows within engineering environmentsBonusExperience modernising platform or security-critical systemsExposure to event-driven architecture and messaging systemsHealthcare, fintech, or other regulated industry experiencePolyglot engineering background (Go, Python, Java, etc.)Experience building internal developer platforms, tooling, or AI-native engineering workflowsSounds good?
