Job Overview - Medical Laboratory Technician Location: Harwood Heights, IL Facility Type: Clinical Reference Laboratory (Microbiology Dept) Start Date: ASAP Length of Assignment: 6 month contract to hireSchedule: Wednesday - Sunday | 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Weekend hours vary based on volume; flexible weekday scheduling options available - such as working Mon/Tues off Thurs/Fri instead) State License Needed: None Required Pay: Competitive hourly rates are available; specific pay ranges and possible stipends will be discussed directly with your Medix recruiter.Job DescriptionMedix is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Lab Technician I to join a high-volume microbiology department at a leading laboratory facility in Harwood Heights. As a Medix clinician, you will work within our client's facility to support critical diagnostic testing and sample processing.This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in laboratory sciences who thrives in a fast-paced environment. While this is a lower-level technician role that does not require specific certification, we are looking for an individual with strong technical aptitude and a commitment to quality clinical outcomes.ResponsibilitiesPerform complex testing on patient specimens using advanced analytical techniques including LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, and immunoassays.Accurately interpret, verify, and report test results in accordance with laboratory protocols and clinical guidelines.Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment, including the VITEK, BacT/Alert system, and MALDI-TOF MS.Assist in method development, optimization, and validation of new clinical tests.Ensure a smooth laboratory workflow by performing sample preparation, aliquoting, tracking inventory, and preparing reagents.Maintain rigorous quality control standards, documenting all calibrations, maintenance, and chain-of-custody requirements.Adhere to all regulatory standards and SOPs to ensure a safe, secure, and confidential work environment.Provide technical guidance and support to junior staff to contribute to a collaborative team atmosphere.Job RequirementsEducation: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.Technical Experience: Prior GC/MS and LC/MS experience is required.Preferred Experience: Previous hands-on experience with VITEK, BacT/Alert, or MALDI-TOF MS systems is highly preferred.Skills: Proficient with computers and laboratory information systems (LIS). High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.Adaptability: Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and flexibility to work overtime or adjust shifts based on business needs.Medix BenefitsPaid Sick Leave: Medix provides paid sick leave according to state and local sick leave ordinances.
