We're working with a venture-backed healthcare technology company solving complex problems at the intersection of data, software engineering, and applied machine learning. The platform is already in real-world clinical use, and the engineering team is now scaling core systems to support growing adoption, data volumes, and product scope.This is a senior individual contributor role for someone who wants to own backend architecture and operate with real autonomy in a high-impact, technically rigorous environment.As a Staff Software Engineer, you'll take ownership of backend systems that underpin data-heavy, production-grade products used in real healthcare settings. You won't be handed rigid specifications, instead, you'll help define the technical direction, make architectural decisions, and set engineering standards.You'll work closely with software, data, and applied ML teams to ensure systems are scalable, reliable, and secure from day one.What You'll DoDesign, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIsOwn architecture decisions for distributed, event-driven systemsPartner with data teams on data ingestion, transformation, and analytics pipelinesSupport production deployment of ML-backed systems and inference workflowsBuild and maintain third-party and enterprise integrations in regulated environmentsImprove reliability, observability, and CI/CD practices across the platformSet the bar for engineering quality and mentor senior engineersYour Background8+ years of professional software engineering experienceExpert-level Python for backend services and data processingStrong experience with distributed systems, microservices, and system designSolid database experience (SQL + NoSQL) with performance tuningCloud infrastructure experience (AWS), including Docker, Terraform, KubernetesStrong testing, deployment, and monitoring practicesComfortable working in environments with security and compliance constraintsNice-to-haveExperience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industriesExposure to data-intensive or ML-enabled productsExperience integrating with external enterprise systemsBackground scaling platforms from early-stage to production useWhy This RoleHigh ownership, high trust engineering cultureComplex, meaningful technical problemsReal-world impact from day oneSmall, senior team with strong technical standardsIf you're a backend engineer who enjoys owning systems end to end and wants to work on problems that actually matter outside of tech, this is worth a conversation.
