Position: Electromechanical Assembly TechnicianLocation: Palo Alto, CA - 100% OnsiteLength: 9+ month contract to startPlease no agencies. Direct employees currently authorized to work in the United States - no sponsorship availableJob Description:We are seeking a hands-on Electromechanical Assembly Technician to support the build and integration of custom laboratory automation systems and workstations. This role is focused on assembling and integrating custom-designed automation platforms that combine off-the-shelf laboratory instruments with internally designed mechanical and electrical systems.The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical assembly and AC/DC wiring experience, enjoy working in a highly hands-on environment, and be comfortable solving problems independently when documentation is limited or evolving. This is not a repetitive assembly-line role "” it is a "build and figure it out" environment requiring critical thinking, adaptability, and strong troubleshooting skills.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Assemble electromechanical systems, subassemblies, wiring harnesses, and control panels from mechanical drawings and electrical schematicsPerform AC/DC point-to-point wiring and cable routing for sensors, I/O devices, and integrated subsystemsInstall and connect sensors including proximity, temperature, and motion devicesAssemble mechanical frames, tables, mounts, and structural subassemblies using engineering drawingsPerform mechanical and electrical integration of laboratory instruments into custom automation platformsAssemble and pressure-test pneumatic components and subsystems as neededUtilize multimeters, crimpers, soldering irons, and standard hand tools safely and effectivelyRead and interpret schematics and drawings with limited step-by-step documentationTroubleshoot assembly and integration issues during system buildsDocument build changes, discrepancies, and as-built updates during assembly activitiesCollaborate closely with design and automation engineers while independently executing assigned build workQualifications:3+ years of experience in electromechanical assembly, automation equipment, lab systems, or related technical environmentsStrong AC/DC wiring and point-to-point wiring experienceAbility to read and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawingsStrong mechanical aptitude with hands-on assembly experience using standard hand and power toolsExperience integrating sensors, wiring, and subsystems into larger assembliesFamiliarity with pneumatic systems and components preferred, but advanced expertise is not requiredComfortable working independently with minimal supervisionStrong troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills in environments with limited or evolving documentationAbility to adapt and solve build ambiguities in real timeDetail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality workmanshipPreferred Backgrounds:Automation equipment assemblyCustom machine or prototype buildsLaboratory automation systemsAutomotive or electromechanical technician backgroundsIndustrial equipment integrationEducation & Certifications:Associate degree in Electromechanical Technology or related technical field preferred, or equivalent hands-on experienceCertifications related to electrical systems, automation, or pneumatics are a plusPOST-OFFER BACKGROUND CHECK IS REQUIRED.
