Hardware & Rack Operations:Install, remove, and replace: Servers (rack mount and blade), Network devices (switches, routers, firewalls), Storage arraysIdentify hardware components: CPUs, RAM, NICs, HBAs, power supplies, disksPerform rack & stack following standard layouts and weight distributionBasic troubleshooting of failed components (LED codes, error indicators)Cabling & Physical ConnectivityInstall and manage: Fiber (LC, SC) and copper (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6a)Follow labeling standards and structured cabling practicesTrace cables end to end using documentation or tone testersMaintain airflow and cable management (front to back discipline)Power & Environmental SystemsSafely work with: A/B power feeds, PDUs (intelligent and basic)Understand power concepts: Single phase vs three phase (basic), Voltage, amperage, load balancing (foundational)Identify and escalate environmental issues: Hot spots, Humidity or temperature alarmsNetwork & System BasicsBasic understanding of: IP addressing (IPv4 fundamentals), VLAN concepts, Link lights and port statusesConnect devices to correct: Switch ports, Redundant network pathsConsole into devices when instructed (serial, iLO, DRAC, IPMI)Incident Response & TroubleshootingFollow runbooks and SOPs with minimal supervisionPerform guided troubleshooting: Power cycle equipment safely, Replace FRUs (Field Replaceable Units), Verify restoration of service indicatorsKnow when to escalate to L3 / remote engineersTicketing & DocumentationUpdate tickets accurately with: Actions taken, Timestamps, Photos (rack, serial numbers, cabling)Follow change management proceduresMaintain attention to detail during audits and inventory checksCustomer & Remote Support InteractionAct as hands and eyes for remote engineersCommunicate clearly over: Ticket systems, Phone or chat during live incidentsData Center SafetyFollow ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) proceduresSafe lifting practices (servers, UPS components)Awareness of: Electrical hazards, Locked cages and access controlsRequirements:Experience with data center hardware installation, removal, and replacementKnowledge of rack and stack operations for servers, network devices, and storage systemsFamiliarity with fiber and copper cabling, cable management, and labeling standardsBasic understanding of power systems, including A/B feeds, PDUs, and load balancingFoundational networking knowledge, including IP addressing, VLANs, and port connectivityExperience with console access tools such as iLO, DRAC, IPMI, and serial consoleAbility to follow runbooks, troubleshoot issues, and escalate when neededStrong ticketing and documentation skillsUnderstanding of ESD procedures and data center safety practices
