Human Resources GeneralistDepartment: Human Resources (HR)Shift: Monday - Friday Reports to: Human Resources DirectorThis role is based in office full-time, requiring on-site attendance five days per week. Consistent in-person presence is essential for the HR Generalist at our corporate office. Job Summary:As a Human Resources Generalist, you will support a variety of human resource functions throughout the state of Colorado, helping foster a positive, high-performing, and people-focused workplace culture. Responsibilities include partnering with leaders and employees to support employee relations, maintain employee records, recruiting, ensure compliance with federal and Colorado employment laws, guide performance management and corrective action processes, coordinate employee training and development initiatives, and administer compensation, benefits, and performance programs.The ideal candidate brings strong knowledge of federal and Colorado employment law, a collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, and a commitment to building trust, accountability, and employee engagement across the organization. Success in this role requires professional integrity, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while promoting a culture grounded in respect, teamwork, and continuous improvement.Duties/Responsibilities:Typical duties include but are not limited to:Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.Conducts and documents investigations. Recruits, interviews, and selects employees to fill vacant positions.Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals.Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within organization.Administers salary administration program to ensure compliance and equity within organization.Administers benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carrier.Conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate.Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.Compensation Package: Pay rate: Salary ranges from $60,000-$80,000 per year depending on experienceSupervision Given and Received:This position has no supervisory duties. This position is supervised and directly reports to a HR Director.Required Skills/Abilities: Advanced knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations in assigned region(s). Advanced knowledge of Human Resources including but not limited to employee relations, benefits, leave of absences, policies, programs, investigations, disciplinary action, etc. Must be able to speak knowledgeably about all major HR issues facing American Furniture WarehouseMust be able to work in a team environmentStrong attention to detailTolerance for variability and high work volumeAbility to thrive under pressureAbility to handle multiple projects, with varying deadlines at onceAptitude to learn new processes and proceduresExcellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills with previous experience as a HR Manager, HR Generalist, HR Business Partner or similar role Budgeting and payroll experienceHands on experience with HRIS/HCM and Recruiting software Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on AFW's successStrategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal and customer service skills.Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.Ability to lead team meetings and motivate othersExcellent organizational skills and attention to detail.Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.Computer Skills: Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, type 35+ wpm, advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), advanced internet research skills, and advanced experience with HRIS/HCM and payroll systems (Oracle preferred.)Certificates and Licenses: Certifications and licenses related to Human Resources, business and safety are preferred. PHR and/or SHRM certification preferred but not required.Education and Experience:Four-year college or university program degree; or four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience could be considered.Physical Demands:Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 to 50 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at various facilities. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Requires the ability to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas. Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 a day.Requires constant use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.
