We combine engineering excellence, disciplined execution, and customer focus to deliver complex programs that support our growth strategy across regions and marketsRole OverviewThe Application Engineer is responsible for developing complete refrigeration system solutions, including display cases, condensing units, and rack systems. This role bridges sales, engineering, and customers by translating project requirements into optimized, compliant, and high-performing system designs.The ideal candidate has strong refrigeration fundamentals and is comfortable working across the full system"”from case loads through rack selection and controls strategy"”while supporting both pre-sales and project execution. This candidate would be serving North and South America so Spanish & English speaking is a must.Main Duties & ResponsibilitiesDevelop complete refrigeration system designs, including:Display case selection and load calculationsRack and condensing unit sizing (MT/LT systems, CO2 transcritical/subcritical)Piping concepts and system architecturePerform heat load calculations and ensure proper system capacity selection across varying operating conditionsSelect and apply key components:Compressors, gas coolers, evaporatorsExpansion devices (EEVs), valves, and controlsAncillary components (oil management, receivers, etc.)Support system optimization:Efficiency (AWEF/energy targets, Title 24 where applicable)Reliability and serviceabilityStartup and operational stability (superheat, suction control, etc.)Work closely with:Sales teams to develop proposals and technical solutionsCustomers/consultants to review specifications and ensure complianceInternal engineering teams for product alignment and standardizationReview project specifications and ensure designs meet applicable standards (UL, DOE, local codes, customer specs, etc.)Provide technical support during:Project quoting and design phaseInstallation and commissioning (as needed)Issue resolution and performance troubleshootingContribute to development of tools, standards, and best practices for system application and selectionExperience & QualificationsUniversity degree in engineering, business, or a related fieldBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)3-8+ years of experience in commercial refrigerationStrong understanding of refrigeration cycles, including CO2 (R744) systems preferredExperience with:Rack systems (parallel compression, ejectors a plus)Case and evaporator selectionExpansion devices and control strategiesFamiliarity with industry standards and regulations:UL / ETL requirementsDOE / AWEF / Title 24 (preferred)Proficiency with selection and design tools (manufacturer software, load calculation tools, Excel-based modeling, etc.)Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot system-level issuesEffective communication skills for working with internal teams and external customersBi-lingual (Spanish & English)What Success Looks LikeConsistently delivers accurate, optimized system designs that perform as expected in the fieldReduces design iterations and minimizes field issues (startup instability, capacity mismatches, etc.)Provides solutions that balance performance, cost, and complianceBecomes a trusted technical resource for sales teams and customersImproves standardization and contributes to scalable application practicesSupports successful project execution from concept through commissioning
