This role is strongly focused on advanced ultrasound technology development, with particular emphasis on phased array ultrasonic systems, signal processing, and system-level optimization for high-performance industrial battery inspection.You will lead R&D initiatives spanning core technology development, system architecture, customer applications, performance characterization, and next-generation product development. The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in ultrasonic systems with strong experimental, analytical, and cross-functional engineering skills. You are a hands-on engineer who enjoys diving deeply into complex system behavior and translating first-principles understanding into practical engineering solutions. You are intellectually curious, methodical, and comfortable leading open-ended technical investigations with a high level of ownership and autonomy. The ideal candidate brings both strong theoretical understanding and practical experience with real-world ultrasonic inspection systems.ResponsibilitiesLead development, characterization, and validation of advanced ultrasonic inspection systems for battery manufacturing applications. Develop deep theoretical and practical understanding of ultrasonic wave propagation, transducer behavior, acoustic coupling, and signal interpretation in complex battery structures to enable technology advancement and new inspection capabilities. Drive the design, evaluation, and integration of core ultrasonic technologies, including phased array configurations, acquisition electronics, and coupling strategies. Analyze large and complex ultrasonic datasets and develop advanced signal processing and imaging methodologies to improve defect detectability.Build system- and subsystem-level models to predict inspection performance, acoustic behavior, sensitivity, throughput, repeatability, reliability and operational tradeoffs across varying customer applications and manufacturing conditions.Design and execute rigorous experiments to validate system specifications, characterize performance limits, and support technology development throughout the full product lifecycle from concept development through production deployment and field support. Work closely with Product Management and customers to translate inspection challenges and manufacturing requirements into measurable system-level specifications, technical requirements, and performance metrics.Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science, Software, and Hardware teams to validate concepts, troubleshoot complex issues, and deploy scalable, production-ready inspection systems.Minimum RequirementsBachelor's degree or equivalent in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree with 5+ years; OR PhD with 2+ years of relevant experience.Strong hands-on experience developing, characterizing, troubleshooting and optimizing ultrasonic inspection systems, preferably phased array ultrasonic systems for NDT or medical imaging applications.Deep theoretical and practical understanding of ultrasound physics and acoustic propagation in complex media. Strong background in ultrasonic simulation and signal processing techniques. Experience correlating simulation, experimental data, and real-world system performance is highly desirable.Experience designing, executing, and interpreting experiments to characterize and improve complex inspection or metrology systems.Experience applying systems engineering principles to predict system performance and optimize solutions for customer applications.Strong data analysis and programming skills (Python is preferred).Good communication and presentation skills with ability to work effectively across technical, commercial and leadership teams.Nice to havesExperience with Solidworks or similar CAD programs.Working knowledge of Linux systems. Experience integrating inspection systems into automated manufacturing environments.
