Senior Propulsion EngineerLocation: Pittsburgh, PAType: Full-TimeLevel: Senior / LeadClearance: Not required, but advantageousAbout the RoleWe're looking for a Senior Propulsion Engineer who wants to own propulsion end-to-end, from early sizing and architecture through integration, testing, and mission operations. You'll be a core contributor to a small, high-impact propulsion team working across multiple sites, with direct influence on vehicle performance and mission success.If you enjoy building real hardware, solving complex fluid-thermal problems, and seeing your systems fly, this is that kind of role.What You'll Work OnLead the design and development of next-generation propulsion systems for spacecraftDrive system architecture decisions and collaborate closely with structures, GNC, thermal, I&T, and mission opsDevelop conceptual and detailed designs for hypergolic propulsion systems, tanks, valves, pressurization, engines, instrumentationPerform trade studies to optimise performance, mass, reliability, and integrationBuild and run fluid-thermal models to guide design choices and operational envelopesManage suppliers: define specs, review manufacturing processes, and verify requirements through analysis and testingWrite integration instructions and support hands-on assembly in cleanroom environmentsContribute to technical readiness reviews, safety reviews, and test planningDevelop mission operations procedures and support real-time operationsPresent technical findings to internal stakeholders and leadershipWhat You Bring8+ years of experience in propulsion system design, analysis, integration, and testingStrong background in hypergolic propulsion systemsAbility to lead technical workstreams and align cross-functional teamsDeep understanding of propulsion architecture, components, and industry suppliersExperience with fluid system modelling toolsStrong decision-making skills balancing performance, risk, cost, and scheduleHands-on experience with valves, pressure vessels, pumps, thrusters, and instrumentationHigh standards for engineering rigour, verification, and safetyFamiliarity with systems engineering and spacecraft cleanliness requirementsBonus Skills(Not required, but highly valued)Experience with space or lunar environmentsHands-on experience with hypergolic fluid handlingFamiliarity with cryogenic propellantsThermal Desktop, Amesim, or similar modelling toolsPython, C/C++, MATLAB, or Fortran for analysisCFD experience (ANSYS FLUENT or CFX)Knowledge of aerospace standards and explosive hazard calculationsUnderstanding of combustion chemistry, propellant mixing, and thermal controlExperience with pressure vessel requirements and safety processesBackground in test facility design and operations
