Position SummaryThe Law Enforcement Educator leads museum visitors through immersive, scenario-based training experiences that reflect real-world law enforcement decision-making; delivers engaging educational programs and tours for diverse audiences; and provides limited back-up support for visitor services.This position is ideal for a retired law enforcement professional or trainer who enjoys working with childreneducating the public, and speaking confidently to groups of varying sizes, ages, and backgrounds. Educators must be skilled facilitators who can adapt content and delivery style to meet the needs of school groups, families, community organizations, and professional audiences. This is an in-person position and the successful candidate will be able to easily travel into Washington, D.C.Breakdown of ResponsibilitiesSimulator Instruction - 40%Education & Group Programs - 50%Front Desk / Visitor Services Support - 10%Primary Areas of ResponsibilitySimulator Instruction (40%)Lead 15-30 minute sessions in the Museum's two training simulators: VirTra Decision SimulatorL3Harris PatrolSim Driving SimulatorProvide participants with clear explanations of training equipment and proper usage during each scenario.Oversee scenario selection and delivery based on program type, age group, and learning objectives.Ensure the safety and well-being of all simulation participants.Maintain daily operation and routine care of simulator equipment.Follow established instructional guidelines and collaborate with fellow simulator educators.Education & Group Programs (50%)Lead interactive educational programs, workshops, tours, and facilitated discussions for: K-12 school groupsScouting and youth organizationsFamilies and general visitorsCommunity and law enforcement groupsDemonstrate strong public speaking skills and the ability to engage groups of all sizes and ages, from young children to adults.Facilitate thoughtful, respectful discussions that encourage participation and inquiry.Adapt teaching methods to match audience age, background, and understanding of law enforcement topics.Work collaboratively with museum staff to support shared educational goals and program outcomes.Front Desk / Visitor Services Support (10%)Provide limited front desk coverage, including welcoming visitors and selling museum tickets as needed.Support a positive, professional visitor experience in a public-facing environment.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesTen (10) years of law enforcement experience preferredPrior experience working with children or youth audiences is strongly preferredComfort and confidence speaking to diverse groups across a wide range of ages and backgroundsFirearms / Use of Force Instructor preferredLaw Enforcement Driving Instructor preferredExperience facilitating discussions with non-law enforcement audiencesExperience developing and delivering lesson plans or training curriculaFamiliarity with VirTra, L3Harris, or FATS systems is a plus, but not requiredProficient with computer hardware and softwareNever included on the National De-certification Index (required)Familiarity with de-escalation instruction preferredStrong communication skills, flexibility, and adaptabilityWorking ConditionsMust be able to safely operate and maintain firearms and driving simulator equipmentPosition requires frequent, sustained periods of standing and/or walkingWork is performed in a public-facing museum environment during daily hours of operationMust be available for weekday and weekend shiftsPart-time position; compensation is $32.50 per hour
